Empty out one's savings account and give it to them.

Option 1:
Identify the crew you want to join and understand the costs. Get involved in the their fundraisers and build some relationships. Playing golf is helpful. If you're cool and they like you, you'll be asked if you'd like to apply for membership.
You'll get one shot so be prepared to pay.
Option 2: Take someone's place who can't make the parade and just ride (this is as much fun without the commitments).

Have fun. It's a blast. Get you some boas. Be sure to pop an imodium. It's a long ride and you dont want to shiite especially if the float is moving. Oh, and don't worry about trying to remember to throw to someone you know in a particular spot. It's very difficult to keep your bearing because its just a wall of people several miles long.

If you never joined a fraternity in college, this is your chance to experience hazing.

610 stompers?
Slight hikack. We went to the 610 stompers "ball" this year. Most fun I've had in a long, long time.
DJ Jubilee gave an unaccounced performance. 2,000 or more white people losing their minds.

I'll sell you my spot in Thoth for 3k
I have a friend who has ridden for a few years. He acts like his is important in the organization, but when I've asked him to get me in, he's told me the following:
1) Thoth is not expanding
2) Every float is completely full
3) Only way to get on a float is if someone drops out
4) The decision of who gets that spot is made solely and completely by the float lieutenant, so unless you are tight with them, average members can never get their friends and family in
So to those of you who ride in Thoth, Just curious if this is legit or if he's just being a douche.

If you have to ask you probably can't afford it

His response is kind of true. They fill up every year but if someone makes just a little effort within a few months after Mardi Gras they should be able to find someone a spot.

I ride in Thoth...it is an outstanding Sunday if you really enjoy being a drunk santa/rock star mash up for several hours.
Thoth is up to 1700 this year. If you want to ride in Thoth, find a friend who rides. Get to know the guys and the lieutenant. Trust me, if they aren't your cup of tea, the ride will suck.
If you mesh, find out if they have openings or ask the lieutenant to keep you in mind if people drop out. Our float always has 2-4 guys who are in and out.
I have been riding in Thoth for seven years and it is a truly great organization that invests as much into new floats/ equipment as it does into its charitable foundations. Quality leadership, members and organization.
They have no real plans to get much bigger than they are now as the krewe is building newer, better floats.
Our float has been together for quite some time and we do plenty of non-thoth related events together too.

What's it called? Krewe of OT Lounge?
Posted on 2/21/17 at 3:59 pm to LSUFanHouston
I would say that's about 85% correct. Thoth went up 100 riders last year. It's all about who you know. The better the rider sponsoring you knows the float lieutenant the better, or they can get you on a float with a open spot. That's what I did, until I could get on the other float. You have to ride with a different group but the ride is still amazing. They say floats are full but I don't know if that's completely accurate. They did build 2 new floats for this year though.

From a practical standpoint that's the way it works. The float lt is the king of his domaine. Getting on a float is certainly possible, but getting a particular spot next your buddy isn't easy. It's a zero sum game. For you to gain, someone has to lose. My advice to someone wanting to get into a popular krewe is to sign up and bide your time. Just get whatever spot is offered even if a single. Scab ride if you have to. If you are antisocial, it's probably not your thing anyway. You can hang out with your friends who ride up until you need to load up. Make friends with the people you ride next to; they are just looking to have a good time too. Your world on the float are the 2 people next to you, maybe a guy 2 spots away when you get a break. The other side of the float might as well be BFE.

Get you some boas.
This will be my 4th year riding in Thoth.
I keep increasing my boa supply and decreasing my bead supply each year. Everyone on the route wants one of "dem feathers."

I'm about to switch next year to boas, small footballs, and stuffed animals. Nobody seems to give a shite about beads
