Goggins was a late replacement for Joe Manganiello who had to leave the project due to an injury/illness ( see this Variety article). Not sure if Manganiello would've been right for the role of Rip (unless the character was redeveloped for Goggins). Agree with most of the commentary in this thread - the pilot was absolutely terrible, but the show does get marginally better. Also, I do have some issues with such unflattering portrayals of the most-highly-skilled members of our armed forces (along with the other "Tier One" JSOC units). I realize these guys aren't choir boys in real life, but do they have to be portrayed as mentally-unstable womanizing war criminals with substance abuse issues?
