It won't hurt

Alleva's incompetence is the only thing that may prevent us from getting a top flight coach. Money will absolutely lure a great coach. And if he's successful, LSU has the facilities and resources that can help sustain long term success, and can afford to pay a successful coach to stick around instead of using us as a stepping stone.

Im not a basketball fan at all per-say, but I dont think it would be too hard to get an upcoming mid-major guy from the northeast or a big programs Assistant.. Texas went after Shaka Smart.. LSU should do the same.. Go after the Butler Coach etc.. They cant pay what we pay, give them free reign. give them what they want and back away.. period..

We also need to invest in BBall facilities as well.
You mean like build a stand-alone practice facility? First and foremost we need to win some damn games. With that will come fan support. With that will come more money. With that will come even better facilities. Our facilities are more than good enough to not be left in the dust by the top half of the SEC.

LSU is in no way known as a basketball program,
Where were you in the 80's?
We just haven't pursued the right coach. Now maybe the old guard will be quieted and we CAN pursue an up and coming young hotshot coach.
Have faith young grasshopper.

LSU is in no way known as a basketball program, and I'm confident we cannot just grab some top flight coach by throwing a big check at them.
Ah well, frick it. Let's just fold up our shite and give up then.

If LSU would commit just a bit to bball things could be pretty good. LSU is in a major conference that is weak in basketball. Kentucky is the one true elite team in the conference with Florida not far behind. There is no reason why LSU can't be this year's South Carolina in most years. It's not like the ACC where you've got a whole host of top teams. A good coach would at least be able to compete with Kentucky making a run every couple of years but otherwise solidly being in the top 4 of the league and getting a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The right coach could come to LSU and be a consistent tournament team.

Give me an up & coming mid major coach with energy that can relate.....
I do not need or want a coach with great history...want someone "hungry".

I say, go completely in the opposite direction. If we're not going to be serious about our basketball program, $1.5 million is a helluva lot to spend just to say "we have a basketball coach". Give up. Hire some up and coming high school coach. Pay 'em squat. Use the money we save somewhere else in LSU athletics more deserving. We could get a pretty awesome ST coach for 1.5 mill. Hell, give the gymnastics coach a big raise. Seems like she's doing more to earn it than the basketball coach is.

quote:Considering how much the OC and DC make and the rest of the Assistant coaches in Football to say we won't spend any money is just ridiculous! For better or worse, Aleva went with Coach O FOR recruiting, morale and motivation and went with his plan to have independent coordinators who were the best in the business.
First of all one of the main reasons we didn't get a top flight football coach is because we didn't want to spend the kind of money it takes to get one. And you don't need to worry about us doing it in basketball we won't offer any big name coach and we def won't spend any money. I'm not even convinced we are going to fire Jones.
And I agree with the OP that no matter how much money we can't get a quality, big name coach. Guess what? At one time all big time coaches were small names on the way up. We can afford one of those if Aleva does his homework and chooses well. And yes I don't trust him either but he is what we have got.

thats not right.. JJ gets more than 124k.. most SEC teams arent listed.. Jones makes more than that and the list in incomplete after 62...

Like a Shaka Smart type of coach. Granted the Longhorns are struggling this year. He's the type of coach LSU could use.

Your are wrong money talks and that bull shite you are saying walks so take a walk retard !!!!

We threw money at Aranda and he stayed. We threw money at Canada and he came. (awkward)

Let me correct you: Alleva went to Da Coach O as HEAD COACH. Otherwise he is highest paid "recruiter, motivator, etc" in the country.
We are throwing top money at our OC and DC because we must.
We went cheap on the HC to keep the "appearances of poverty" appropriate to F. King A.'s political agenda with the legislature.

sure there are other factors, but don't kid yourself, money is the usually the most important factor for most people at any job, particularly if the employer is a good place and the chance of personal success is high.

How long do we have to hear this Stupit crap .Get over it WTF are you DA going to complain about when coach O gets us in the NC game year one
Posted on 2/13/17 at 2:26 pm to TheDeathValley
We need to make a commitment to basketball. Like we did with football when we brought saban in. Upgrade all the basketball stuff and offer some good money at the right coach and we can get our program back in gear. We have had final fours, top draft picks, nba hall of famers, we have been a team that almost always makes the ncaa tourny....... we can be relevent in basketball

Many on here, myself included, thought LSU could use it's name and throw money at any football coach we wanted and look how that turned out.
Then they are stupid. It doesn't work like that. It really never has. There are many programs who have whiffed at attracting "big name" coaches from other "lesser" programs.
LSU will have to take a gamble on its next coach.
