It's Lincoln's birthday

Tomorrow morning after lifting weights I'll get on the treadmill with Civil War Boy. He's about 45 and does re-enactments all over the country.
I'll say: "So, how did you celebrate Lincoln's birthday on Sunday?"
He'll turn red. Then he'll grab the handle of the treadmill to show me that his heart rate went from 90 to 140 beats a minute. Then he will call Lincoln 'The worst war criminal in American history.' He will then start a litany of crimes committed by Lincoln. That's when I kind of zone out because it takes him a half hour.
Just out of curiosity, are there any posters here who share the same opinion of Lincoln?

Isn't he the same guy that started the biggest bloodshed on American soil?

He should've let the south succeed. South's econmony revolving slavery would've eventually collapse.

You've been posting here for 12 years, dude. You know the answer.

I throw a Lincoln head one cent coin in the commode.
He wishes I could actually piss on him now; to cool his agony.

quote:I'll judge. He's the greatest president this country could have hoped for and is largely responsible for the preservation of a young, regionally and culturally fractured union. Forging the identities of our several states into one nation underpinned this country's economic rise and ascension to great power status within a mere couple of decades of a ruinous war.
While Lincoln may have abused power, it is right to put it in perspective. He was president of a very young country on the verge of civil war. Any moves he made had huge impacts. It's hard to judge 150 years later.
Reconstruction would have gone a lot better if that damn fool secessionist Booth hadn't murdered him.

All presidents can be judged in varying light depending upon your perspective. Abe probably more than most.

And enough people voted for the guy this time espousing the same thing but for some reason Trump is off his rocker.
It's puzzling to say the least.

I'm trying to remember CWB's salient points during his rants. One that sticks out is 'confiscation of private property.' Apparently his ancestors fought for the South. They lost their land during reconstruction and it has never been returned.
He could say "That's not what America is about."
"That's not our values."
But then he would sound like Obama.
