Ballistics hypothetical....

I've read you don't want to shoot .556 out of anything shorter than a 8.5 inch barrel. So my question is which would you rather shoot someone with if your life depended on it (home defense scenario)...?
1. AR pistol in 5.56 with a 7.5 inch barrel and sig brace
2. Full size 9mm pistol

12 gauge with buckshot
But between your two, full size 9mm pistol with hollow points.
An AR pistol in 5.56 with a 7.5 inch barrel and sig brace would be a terrible home defense weapon.

The AR and it's not close. 30 rounds moving around 2,300 fps.

High velocity with small projectile is not your friend in a home defense scenario

You can get 5.56mm round in JHP. I'll agree it's not optimal, but still a long gun (i.e. a real gun).

This said, I would not go below 10.3 inches for a 5.56 gun because you lose so much velocity and this would only be if I built a mk18 clone. Otherwise I wouldnt go below 11.5.

Sorry I forgot to add to ignore over penetration. Speaking solely about the more effective rd to stop a threat at relative close range (inside 50ft).

I thought about making my scorpion my HD gun. Light...30 rounds of 9mm hp...better pistol accuracy...quiet with a can for indoor blasting at a crackhead in my house.

How does that compare ballisticly to the 556 at 50ft?

that doesn't mean it's a better option. It just means a lot of people are stupid
