Sounds like the deal was almost done and now haven't heard anything in a few days. I bet once this deal went public other teams realized how crap arse our offer was and started throwing better deals at Philly. Ajinca and a 2018 protected first or holiday for Okafor is a steal for us- considering we need to tank and then not throw a max at Jrue this summer.

Good. Dell should not be allowed to make another move to further dig us in the shithole we are already in

Okafor deal was one of the options for Dell.
Colangelo probably went to the media to increase Okafor's value.

Both teams are collecting offers and will decide near the deadline.

Personally I like it. Prefer to wait to become sellers after next 4 loses in 4 games

so you'd rather keep Ajinca, who doesnt play, and a late teens pick year, instead of an off the bench center that scores 16ppg and can create offense on his own?
Okafor will play in the nba for 10+ years scoring in double figures. It's not often you find a late teens pick do that.

Dude, it will not be a late teens pick. It will be a top 12 pick.

Depends on the protection attached to it.

If the plan was to get Okafor, resign Jrue, get a guy like Fournier with your 2017 pick, somehow get rid of Asik, Buddy and Diallo get better, we should be an above .500 team with ease assuming relative health. You win 45 games and your a top 12 team, not a bottom 12.

But its not binary. It's not like the ONLY choices are Okafor or the 2018 pick. What if that same pick could get you Nurkic and Chandler, for instance? Or you hold onto it and trade it next February for something else?

I don't even like Terrance Jones, but I think he will be just as good or better than Okafor over the next 2-3 years. I don't get giving up an asset for Okafor when I can probably just re-sign Jones for a little more. And again, I don't like Jones.

It's the opportunity cost that is the issue. You do this trade and you can't move your 2018 or 2019 pick if another quality player comes available. And several will. I just don't see the upside of Okafor. He does one thing well, and two major things poorly. I can get that elsewhere without giving up an asset that can get me something I might actually need down the line.

The only immediate advantage of trading for Okafor is that it secures Gentry being fired. Long term hope that Okafor could develop nicely next to AD. If talks have died, then we need to trade Asik/Ajinca for Nikola Vucevic

I'd rather Jones than Okafor as well over the next 3 years, but Jones is going to cost 2 to 3 times as much as Okafor over that time, not just a little bit more.
What are the chances that the asset of a late teens pick will be better than Okafor?

And sure, i bet there are other players we could get for that pick, or we could never trade it and use it in two years for a guy that may or may not ever be worth a shite, and when he is worth a shite, it won't matter b/c AD won't be here anymore.

Jones is coming off a good year ready to hit free agency. Assuming he stays healthy you ready to give him around 10 a year? I'm not. Rather hope Okafor can improve, one thing the Pels have actually been good at (developing bigs). Plus they're taking Ajinca's god awful contract off our hands.

If this is 2017 pick though frick Demps.

Do you see Nurkic as a better fit as far as the long-term build around AD?

I don't think he will be a perfect fit, but I think he is more balanced and has a smaller price tag- both salary wise and what it would cost to get him

I'd rather not get a center in a trade, and get a draft pick in the teens for Jrue or whatever else, and draft Bam from Kentucky.
That's why i want to trade Jrue to Chicago, to get Bam.

Sounds like he is available. I wonder what Denver would take for him. If we could work a package that we get him without giving up a 1st, that may be a move that is not too high risk.
