Rush has figured out why the left hates Devos so much. (semi NSFW language)

RUSH: Betsy DeVos has just been confirmed. It’s historic. The vice president cast the tie-breaking vote, getting her confirmed. This is big for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is that the Democrat leader in the Senate, Chuck You Schumer, called Betsy DeVos the worst cabinet nominee ever. Betsy DeVos was the nominee that the Democrats decided they were going to destroy. They were gonna prevent her being confirmed as a statement to their base and as a panacea to their donors, because the teachers unions are huge, huge powerbrokers and donors in the Democrat Party.
And yet she’s just been confirmed. I don’t care if it took Pence voting, she has been confirmed. And Betsy DeVos wants to turn public education upside down and fix it with such things as school choice. The hypocrisy on this, folks, this is really, really I think serious stuff. The Democrat Party has always proclaimed itself to be the party of the little guy, the disenfranchised, the downtrodden, the hungry, the thirsty, the victims. All of the poor and all of the powerless, the Democrat Party was their champion. And look what the Democrat Party has done to the schools that educate these people.
Many of them are in war-zone-like neighborhoods, broken windows proliferate these actual school buildings. The things that these kids are being taught and learning are just worthless. It’s a liberal indoctrination, if anything. They’re not being taught a thing about the greatness of their country, quite the opposite. But it’s worse than that. School choice, do you realize that the minorities in this country love the concept of school choice? They get a voucher and they are permitted to send their kids to any public or private school if the program exists where they live, that their voucher will pay for.
Every one of these minority families that gets a voucher loves it and they send their kids to the best schools they can find, and they never end up going to the schools they would otherwise go to if they didn’t have a voucher. Now, these are direct threats to the teachers union. School voucher, school choice, parents being able to choose where to send their kids to be educated is the biggest blow to the teachers unions and the left that you could imagine. It destroys their monopoly. It destroys their monopoly over thought control and propaganda, indoctrination, and everything.
And yet the Democrats claim they’re for the little guy, and they claim they’re for minorities, and they claim that they want people to be able to escape whatever bonds of poverty they find themselves. Do you know what the first thing Obama did when he became president in 2008? There was a school choice program in Washington, and it was being used and it was adored, it was loved, and it was being used by many minority families.
I usually don't like Rush or his opinions, but he is absolutely correct. If minorities realize that it is the left and the left's ideas that are the reason for the poor education systems that do not let them escape poverty, crime, drugs etc then the left is screwed.

They aren't.
But they like to drive the plow and keep you chained to to their policies.

I know next to nothing about Betsy DeVos, but I do know that if you keep appointing people like those we have been getting the last 30+ years, you are going to get similar results, and a continuing steady decline.
Her detractors say she knows very little about the public school system. That could turn out to be a good thing.

I support school choice, but I don't know why people think this is going to "fix" the pervasive problems when the systemic issues (parental involvement, cultural values, students themselves, etc.) aren't going to suddenly change.

All you need to know about Betsy Devos:
1. She is pro charter schools
2. She is pro voucher
3. She is anti everything that we have been doing for 30+ yrs
4. Teachers unions hate her
5. She is our best shot at fixing public school systems in America.

It's going to give the students and parents who don't have those problems an escape.
You'll have worse outcomes for the problem kids in poor situations and better outcomes for the kids with potential in the poor situations

It won't, but this is one of the hurdles that will help more kids than the current system.

School choice isn't going to directly fix the issues that you brought up, but it will indirectly fix those issues. School choice will allow students that are not affected those issues, but stuck in failing schools filled with students that are affected by those issues, to escape those schools. Then once the students that are affected by those issues are isolated, having school choice Policies will allow for different groups to figure out ways to solve those issues without having to spend decades fighting red tape, teachers unions, etc.

Unfortunately the government can't and shouldn't try to fix every family's problems. I'm also not sure how much worse outcomes you could realistically get.

I think everyone knows that parenting is the main reason for success of the child. But like i said, it won't impact every poor student, just the ones unable to get out of the failing school system that want to. And maybe, the years of liberal indoctrination will end and may help additional children.
Public education has done a fantastic job at destroying the education system in the US. It's a long road to fix everything, and not everything can be fixed.

Either Hannity or Rush also addressed the hypocrisy of the left on this issue. They want no government intrusion into the reproductive rights of women and the choice as to whether a child lives or dies, but once they decide to allow the birth of the child they believe only the government should decide how it should be educated. It's crazy!

Also I think a large part of the reason why they hate DeVos so much is that her idiocy will show just how pointless the federal Departmenr of Education is in America.

How can Betsy DeVos fix public education when she has no professional experience as a teacher or administrator of public schools and never attended public school herself as a student?
Posted on 2/8/17 at 3:19 pm to Bench McElroy
Because reform rarely comes from entrenched people who are beholden to the system.

Wow. I don't know if you can stuff more blatant generalizations into that amount of space if you tried, but rush is a master with the broad brush.

So would you don't think FedEx and UPS haven't improved USPS with competition? At least with delivery, I get to decide if I want to buy stamps or not. With schools, I'm gonna pay that property tax no matter what, and then cough up more for my choice

I like how you think. Let this be the Nero that brings the system down around her ears.
