Leonard Fournette Scouting Report

The Film Room Ep. 20
Brett Kollmann has a great Youtube channel, and is breaking down other draft picks in the coming weeks.

Blessed with an absolutely terrifying combination of size, speed, and power, Fournette has been able to (mostly) bully his way through the toughest conference in college football for the last three seasons (Alabama not included, of course). His physical skillset is not just rare, it's downright unheard of. 230+ pounds, legit 4.4 speed, and enough power to bury single tacklers alive with ruthless aggression - he's got it all. Simply put, this kid might just be on the great Bo Jackson's level in terms of athletic freakishness. Will he ever match Ezekiel Elliott's rookie season or Adrian Peterson's total career production? That remains to be seen. However, what we do know is this - if there was EVER a running back prospect who could be given the benefit of the doubt just on physical gifts alone, it's Leonard Fournette. He's that special, folks.

It will truly suck arse if Carolina picks him
That's only the fan in me saying that because to be honest that would be a great fit for him.

The only way I support the Saints trading up is to somehow block Carolina from taking Fournette

Saints will be fine if they go bama defense heavy in the draft this year.

nice breakdown. wish he'd used some 2015 game film though.

I agree with this guy's analysis. Fournette is a rare size/speed combination. While I'm sure there are others, he reminds me of Bo Jackson and Herschel Walker. Two guys that weren't great at making tacklers miss, but if you gave them a hole they would explode through it like few players ever had.
As the guy discusses, Fournette will probably struggle some because he lacks great vision. If the hole is in front of him, then it is a home run waiting to happen. If not, he's probably not going to see the actual hole. While both run extremely hard, Fournette is almost the antithesis of Guice. Fournette has great speed and power, but lacks great balance and vision. Guice on the other hand doesn't have quite the same speed and power, but he seems to see every cutback lane before anyone else does and his balance is incredible. He can absorb glancing blows with no problems. Fournette would get knocked of balance by them (but heaven help the defender who gets squared up by Fournette)
My hope for Fournette is that he doesn't go to a team with a weak OL. He HAS to have an OL that can create space for him. He doesn't see the cutback lanes well enough on his own. I hate to say it/think it, but Carolina would probably be a great fit.

I think the Rant's catch phrase of 2016 that "Fournette lacks vision" is not accurate. There are several highlights of Fournette in the spread set taking a handoff and finding a cutback lane on the opposite side of the center. What you guys saw from Fournette this year was a player running on a bum ankle out of mostly the I formation. When running out of the I you better follow your fullback because that's where the play is designed to go and there are bad angles for the blockers on the backside of the play. Running out of the shotgun spread sets opens up more running lanes across the board.

Jets will pick him up at #6
Desperately need star power and they'll pull the trigger on him

I don't care what team he goes to as long as it's a good fit for him

That film reminds me how bad arse that guy was. There are five yard runs on there that are truly spectacular.

I wish the saints would move up to get him and drop that no good clown from Alabama.
Wishful thinking though.
I'll root for him anywhere he goes. It's going to be fun watching him run behind an NFL line. Except when it's against the Saints :/

Naw your wrong, unless the Panthers get Les Miles then the Saints have nothing to worry about.

I like the way he explained everything
