Funny how a conservative like Ronald Reagan was in favor of free trade, free flow of labor, and free flow of capital unlike Trump.

All the results of which have been negative to the U.S. Time for a change.

Whats that old quote? "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results".

Do you agree that open borders and a welfare state are incompatible?

Because I think most conservatives would be more for open borders if the welfare state was ended, or at least scaled back.

True. But it's also funny how liberals opposed those things until the moment Trump was sworn in.

Under the assumption that "free trade" wouldn't be detrimental to American jobs (e.g., see Harley Davidson during Reagan's tenure), "free flow of labor" would be a welfare burden on the state and "free flow of capital" wouldn't be undercut by currency manipulation.

Free trade only works if the parties deal in good faith and on a level playing field. Go and research the EU's EBA free trade deal with Cambodia and how its sugar trade has destroyed rural farmers, leveled villages, and led to appalling human rights violations.

The world is a lot different now. Reagan left office almost 28 years ago
