Hope he's still lucid and responsive.

He is when he is awake. My grandfather died of the same thing so I remember what the very end is like and my dad is showing early signs of that. His cognitive functions are diminishing as is his equilibrium. Two months ago they did radiation on his brain and a month ago his scans showed no tumors on his brain but I imagine that's changed. They sent him home a month ago for palliative care because he stopped responding to treatment and gave him less than 3 months.

I read the article hoping it was small cell also.

Sorry to hear about your dad.

My dad was diagnosed in may last year. It has already spread to his back, ribs, legs etc. He's done 6 rounds of chemo and was pain free during. since chemo stopped the tumors are growing again and he's in alot of pain. Not sure how much longer he has.
Dr appt tomorrow.

I have a coworker that just went thru an experiment cancer treatment. So far it is working wonders for him.

Advances in cancer research are really leaping forward.

My dad responded well to the chemo initially but, like the doctors predicted, that was only buying time. He went through 3 different chemos and the cancer eventually overpowered them all.

He was going to get into a clinical trial at MD Anderson but he was too weak and the tumors had already spread too far.

If your dad is up to it I highly recommend trying to get him to MD Anderson and see what other options he has.

Best of luck to you and him.

We initially talked about md but his cancer spread so fast he was rushed to radiation on our first visit with the oncologist. He has some tumors close to the brain stem and spinal cord. They can't be radiated anymore.

I guess we will ask those questions tomorrow about experimental treatments.

Best of luck to you and your family.

Trying not to but he sleeps all the time lately due to the pain pills. I am actually sitting in his room now just so I can be here if he wakes up. It's been a long road, and my dad fought very hard, but I just don't want him to suffer any longer.

Exactly what we went through his last month alive, this time shared is a gift to you.

We dealt with that as well and rolled the dice on additional radiation because the outlook was grim with or without it. Y'all may not be at that point yet, though.

We did everything we could and exhausted all options. It's a hard reality to face when there aren't any options left but it took one Dr that my dad didn't even care for to tell him to come home and enjoy his remaining time. No shame in going that route if no other cards are on the table he told him. It's obviously not the answer anyone wants to hear and I don't wish it on anyone after having dealt with it.

Hoping your dad has a better outcome.

My dad passed on Sept 28 with complications from liver cancer. All he kept saying was that he wanted to make it to another super bowl. Just wanted to watch the game alone tonight.
