Does he teach the high bar or low bar squat?

I know he is an Olympic weight lifting coach but don't they train powerlifting exercises (squat and deadlift) as a base for the Olympic lifts?

I did.

He can train both but ultimately prefers the high bar as he would want any athlete to work on shoulder flexibility for lifting purposes.

If the athlete doesn't have enough shoulder flexibility to grip the bar in the high bar position on the knurling, the it would be pointless to begin training someone to do simple Olympic lifts.

He would immediately make you start working on shoulder and elbow flexibility. Which btw, helped me tons.

I know what you are trying to say.

If you can't keep your hands in the correct position on the bar while the bar is in the front rack or back squat position, then yeah, you are gonna have to work on getting your elbows higher and hands to lay on your shoulders.

Lots of guys that work out can't do that so you gotta work on shoulder and elbow flexibility

I did in the early 90's. I don't recall differentiating between a high bar squat and low bar squat. It was primarily front squat or back squat.

Back then his workouts revolved primarily around the Olympic lifts. The power lifting excercises were included but secondary part of the workout. This may have also been the case for me b/c he coordinated with my high school coach and knew that I was concentrating on these lifts while working out with my team.

Bucket 8 days were always the best.

He broke his stick on my back once.

It hurt. A lot.

I remember the year he worked with the LSU ball team. He looked miserable at all those games.

I trained with the coach for several years in the 70's he is bye far the best coach I ever had, I won 3 or 4 medals in the jr. olympics. Always made me do front and rear squats owee.

If your body couldn't move the way it needed, he wouldn't let you progress. He didn't emphasize the high or low. Just squat or front squat rack.

Why do you ask?
