Headed to KC for business next week. Will be staying in Overland Park. Any recommendations within 10-15 minutes?

Jack Stack is really good. They pride themselves on serving burnt ends. I spent a week in KC last year and ate BBQ 5/6 days. You cannot go wrong with most places. Ask the locals what they prefer and go to those locations.

Jack Stack
Joe's Kansas City
Slap's
Q39

Go to any of those and you will leave happy.

I've had Joe's and Slap's and they were both great.

Joe's ribs are tied with Pappy's in St. Louis for best I've had in a restaurant.

Slap's warm baked potatoe casserole is one of my favorite side dishes I've ever had. It's addicting.

Gates is a shitshow as far as their service goes, but they have some of the best bbq for he price that you can get. Worth the bullshite imo.

Jack Stack is also excellent.

Im from Texas and have been living here in KC for about 10 months. Here are the top ones.

Q39...best in town right now
Joes..there is one off 119th you can go to
Char Bar...Really good Q
LCs...one of my favorites. Hole in the wall but damn good.
Gates...good for quick sandwhich.
Fritzs...on stateline. A smokehouse, but they serve sandwhiches for lunch.

Jack stack...been once and didnt care for it.

If you are a beer drinker make sure to get some sours from crane brewing, and some beers from cinder block if you come across them

Forgot about Slaps..Very good ribs and sides. Small place

Also in overland park area is Broebecks...get burnt end stew if they have it

I have family there and grew up there. Jack Stack used to be really good when it was smoke stack, best Bar Bq chicken in town. Went there a couple times and would not go back too many better options, they still have the best beans in town.
Gates , short end ribs with extra hot sauce is a KC must, go to the one on 103rd and State line." May I help you Please"'better be quick with your order or they pass you by.

All the other new places are good if you want to wait in line but
For real KC bar b que you have to go to Arthur Byants on Brooklin ave. sauce is almost aquired taste, thick not sweet, almost gritty with paprika and celery kinda hot, but I love it and the place. Get the beef and pork combo sandwich and frys and ice cold tap Bud. No way one person can finish as I usually split this with someone. They
Invented Burt ends and beer can chicken but haven't had them there.

Worst BBQ I've had since moving here. I've been twice and didn't care for it either time. Even got the burnt end sandwich last time.

It's the original 1920 resturant once voted best resturant in America and I said it was aquired taste but man that combo Sammy with the original sauce is the best in Town in my opinion but I hate sweet bar b que. Their Fries are awesome as well.

As far as Burt ends go never a fan, waste
Product really

Don't go to Arthur Bryant's unless you want the tourist experience. I've never heard anything good about the place.

My in laws and mom were in town this past week. We went to Q39 on their last day after hitting up Boulevard. DAMN it was good!

This was my burnt end sandwich

Few days before that I took them to Char Bar. I got the three little pigs sandwich they had that day. It had a pattie made out of ground pork with burnt end juice, topped with pulled pork and pork belly, with honey mustard slaw and jalapeno onion straws. Was amazing!!

They do some good Q up here.

So Ive been here longer than expected but Ive had BBQ 4 outta 7 days, which was entirely my goal. I could eat BBQ everyday if I had to.

First night, Joes was right down the street so hit that up. Had the pork ribs, pulled pork, and brisket. All were excellent. I wil say the baked beans were pretty gross. Maybe its a KC thing, but they like to put white beans in there also, not a fan.

For lunch the next day, they had Q39 catered. Only options were pulled pork and brisket, also with their "meat" baked beans. Food was great but the beans were meh.

Couple nights later, I went to Jack Stack. I got there at 6 and the place was packed. Probably the most "upscale" BBQ place Ive ever been and the prices reflected that. I had the pork ribs, burnt ends, and brisket with the cheesy potato has. Everything was excellent.

For lunch a couple days later, I as looking for something close and found BBs Lawnside BBQ, had good reviews. Pulled up and its located next to salvage yard but whatever. Small place inside but they have a blues/jazz player every night apparently. Had the brisket sandwich. really good and thin sliced.

I dont believe any one place was significantly better than the other. All in all, they were all great.I did noticed that I didnt taste as much smoke than when I have Texas bbq
