So she says he never whistled at her? I always thought that was a pretty bold move considering the times.

The way I read that is that her trial testimony said that he did more than whistle at her - he made verbal and physical advances. She now says that part isn't true, but what he really did do/say she doesn't remember.

I agree.

The narrative was always that young Mr. Till was from Chicago and that things were that much different there than in State Number Fifty.

Not being pollyannish, but in 1955 it was very unlikely that in Chicago AA kids would whistle at an adult white female in a public place.

That story always smelt bad to me. This tragic event is a part of the "good ole days" that was anything but good.
