Small government fiscal conservatives have been convinced by the government that they are about to get a new, shiny wall for free courtesy of Mexico. Well not at first, we foot the bill but Mexico is going to pay us back..!

If this weird election couldn't get any weirder, this board is convinced that they are about to get a free wall. And the frickin federal government of all people sold them on it, just front the money and then we'll get it back. Tariffs? Sure, no problem (just dont read the fine print about unintended consequences).

There is no free lunch. Don't trust the government. If it seems to good to be true, it is. Don't trust the government. Spending other people's money doesn't work. And most importantly, if they ever try to sell you on something saying it will be free, don't trust the government!

I don't care if we build the wall or not, and I absolutely think we have to enforce immigration laws and we need a secure border (a wall isn't really the fix though), but you're not getting something for free.

I don't think securing our borders really goes against the conservative mindset.

Also the cost of a wall vs the cost of supporting 20 million illegals through public housing, food, health care, etc probably has a pretty quick "break even" timeline without even considering the tariffs or what not

Well, a wall is included in the enumerated powers of Congress. Welfare for all is not. This isn't rocket sciencez

I'd rather pay for a wall with my tax money to keep them out instead of paying with my tax money to allow them to continue pouring in

I dont think any rational person you speak to thinks we're getting it for free. Nothing is free. I don't think Mexico is going to pay anything.

I'm still not convinced the wall will be built, but I pray to God I'm wrong.

We passed this in 2006, and Trump is going to push to actually fund it. Whether he gets Mexico to fund it is meh, it should already be done...

Neither do I, and I'm all for it (securing our border, less so on wasting money on a wall). We need to understand as a nation the charge we're about to rack up though because no one else going to pay for this. When the government tells you something is going to be free get out your wallet. I'm just saying the ironic thing is that most of you would never trust the fed gov when they tell you something is going to be free, but it's Trump.

Nothing is ever free, that's all I'm saying.

I agree I'm not opposed to spending money to enforce our border and immigration, but I'm under no illusions that someone will be paying it for me. There's plenty on here that honestly think we are going to get the money back from Mexico.

Between welfare, the war on drugs, and destroying the country by noting in Dem majorities, the wall will be the single greatest investment in the history of government spending.

I don't give a shite who pays for it. This country wastes so much money, the wall will be something finally worthwhile.

Mexico isn't going to pay for shite. If you want a wall, build a wall. Go for it. But do so knowing that US taxpayers are going to pay for every single square foot. And if someone from the federal government says they've got this really neat trick where you'll get your money back they're full of shite. They always are.

A conservative invests in an alarm system for his house. His liberal child throws a tantrum because his dad can't buy him a new game system and a happy meal because the money went to pay for the family's security so that in the future jr is safe and secure to throw tantrums until he gets what he wants in the future.

Once liberals realize unsecured borders means a shrinking slice of the pie they'll catch up.

Unsure about that. I think the idea to possibly elect Hillary as President was pretty dumb

Agreed, not as dumb as this. We'll look back on this as one of the greatest blunders of our time. No doubt in my mind.

Could possibly be, but damn isn't it fun to think about it and discuss it.
