I suppose after all the grandstanding and better than thou statements, ole Rand suggested a better appointment.
Well it wasn't like Rand said "this guy is terrible."

He appeared to vote against his for some his specific stances endorsed, so I suspect that given the likelihood of a confirmation, this was to draw attention and scrutiny to the specific issues.

In other words, he's going to be the director, that doesn't mean we can't put the pressure on his specific duties and authority.

I'm glad he didn't. Would be completely inappropriate to do so

I'm tiered of appropriate, and haven't we all decided that with this election.
Just do what's best for the Country damn it!

If you have these grand ideas of what you think about something then stop the fricking blabber mouthing and make a useful suggestion. Otherwise your just wasting my air and my time.

That's exactly what he did; he presented the concerns that a large segment of the population has regarding the balance with security and liberty.

That's far more useful than suggesting an alternative candidate altogether since that's not going to happen.

I disagree, it's not useful for anything but having arguments like this thread.
I get it, dude has points, but it's just bloviating to me if you don't have some alternative to what's being presented.

I see that a tiny handful of mostly like minded folks barely stretched that thread to 2 pages. That's what I expected.

i mean, what do you want people to do? Yes, most of us wanted Rand, but [insert Hillary Benghazi quote here].

Well an alternative is a waste of time if a nominee is surely going to be confirmed, especially since Rand's choices wouldn't be considered.

So he can bring attention to certain issues to the presumptive director, or he can suggest an alternative that will never be considered.

Exactly, it's all a waste of time because no one will remember his little rant.

Many of our military leaders, including incoming Sec. of Defense James Mattis, have acknowledged that waterboarding is torture, is ineffective, and sends a signal to our enemies that it is justified to torture U.S. soldiers when they are captured.

This is political grandstanding and "moral compass" BS at it's finest. It was confirmed that waterboarding and other interrogation techniques led to the capture of OBL. In addition, US soldiers and innocent civilians captured by Al Qaida and ISIS aren't being tortured because they were water boarded first. That is an absolute logical fallacy. They are tortured and gruesomely murdered because Islamic extremism wants a grand show of Terror to shock the world into letting them take over the middle east.

I like Rand, and he was my first choice for POTUS. But he is dead wrong.

I would have voted for rand, but he dropped out before my primary. I voted for Cruz, but he was overwhelmed by the Donald.

I now believe the Donald is the cathartic force that will cleanse the Republican Party and create a void that can be filled by someone with vision aligned with liberty.

There isn't going to be another Donald to run in 2024. Hopefully by then social conservatism is dead, the media is completely discredited, and social justice is something we look back on and laugh at.

Queue Dr. Rand Paul.
