Sucks you got hurt. Hopefully you get back to work and everything can go back to normal. Setbacks suck and can be depressing as hell.

Good for you. My parents grew up poor but they were taught to be self sufficient and were too proud to take handouts. There was a time when the poor were hard working, clean and proud people who took care of themselves. Nowadays, many of the poor are so because they choose not to participate in the economy and I have no sympathy for them.

I worked my arse off waiting tables and bartending, while taking 18 hours at one point. It sucked arse, but I did it. I put myself in that position and dug myself out....no reason others can't do the same.

Except there are reasons others can't do the same and that's why we have safeguards in place. This "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" mentality is great, but not all people are equally capable. People find it easier to make blanket generalizations, though (e.g., "welfare = trash").

Exactly. Good on you, you did what you had to do to make it happen.
I don't care what the circumstances, anyone on welfare is trash

Why was it my responsibility to help you get an education? I worked full time and went to school part time to get mine. Why couldn't you do the same?
Do you think you would have gotten a government check in the mail if the OP didn't have food stamps?
