He is way better than JJ will ever be and I'd take him in a second over JJ, but I'd like a younger coach with something to prove as well.
I'd agree with every point you made here. For whatever Stansbury's high points and best days were, IMHO they are long behind him and that began to show toward the end of his tenure at State.
I can distinctly remember those talent challenged LSU teams under Trent years 2 and 3 (just look at the rosters) that had absolutely no business being even close to State beating them in Starkeville in that span and taking them twice to the wire at home in two of the 3 others.
I could get in to the specifics of the things I saw that made me question Stansbury's coaching acumen at that point in time, but no one has the time or probably interest in that, but for me it was revealing.
The dude is 57 and lacks much of a personality and what personality he does have is a bit surly and annoying.
IMHO that's not what we need here. We need to overhaul the culture IMHO and I really don't think he's the guy for that.

I agree, Tiger Ugly, which is why I said in the same post, we should shoot high. I've also previously posted that we should go for a young, energetic, knowledgeable and successful coach. I'm just not sure what the current administration will be able to get.
Their prior attempts at Johnson and Jones have proven to be misses.
I just hope that we get the best coach willing to come to LSU and pay that coach an amount needed to lure them to LSU.

I'm with you all the way here SCP. Not convinced given the track record we have the folks in place to make the best possible hire either.
We've at least vested ourselves, I hope at least, of the lingering Dale Brown/Collis Temple influence if and when the next opportunity comes.

I would take Stansbury and White in a heart beat. Both have Louisiana roots. White knows the AAU circuit like the back of his hand. Get it done.

Stansbury actually coaches and runs offensive sets. Imagine that. Every game.

He's also currently under .500 in the Sun Belt. If Alleva hires an older retread who's coming off a losing record who was also been fired by a school in our division then shut the department down. We clearly would've demonstrated we don't deserve to do coaching searches.

Amen bruth, Kermit would be a much more preferable fallback for me if we can't get a young energetic up and comer. At least Kermit has some personality and people like him and he can coach.
But again, young, enthusiastic, energetic who has shown ability to coach. I really think that's what this program needs first and foremost.

Bingo.....Scott Drew of Baylor

No. Dude's a major slime ball. Baylor can have that little prick.

No to Stansbury. That's a boring higher with a ceiling

He'll never leave Baylor to come to LSU. Big 12 is better than the sec and Baylor is better than LSU.

whoever comes to LSU better be one top notch recruiter

And Rick wasn't fired from Mississippi State. He took them to more NCAA Tournaments during his tenure than they had been to in the rest of their history combined.

Stansbury would not be my first choice, but he seems preferable to what we've got!!
This is the trap that Joe Alleva has set. Don't fall for mediocre basketball!

And he just lost by 14 to Marshall tonight to fall to 9-11. Inspiring hire that'll be.

Stansbury is a means to an end. You hire him he'll win consistantly and get us to respectability. He's 57 so once he's done you're in a better position to hire a next level coach. What you don't do is take a big risk on a mid major guy that could fail and set you back even more. This idea that you're going to hit a homerun hire that takes us from where we are to the top of the sec is a pipe dream the odds are stacked against us in that scenario. That's why Stansbury is the right hire.

It's his first year there. I'm sure you don't have any idea what type of team he took over or the circumstances of their season, considering you don't even know what conference they are in.
Posted on 1/21/17 at 10:17 pm to BayouBengals03
It's doesn't matter if it's a team comprised entirely of walkons. Selling a retread coming off a losing record is not what we need.

Could not have said it better.
He's not going to coach here forever. LSU's program isn't anywhere close right now. The dude consistently took Mississippi State to the postseason (mainly the NCAA Tournament). fricking Starkville. If he can do that here, it would be a great building block for our program. We'd be in a position so where young, superstar coaches coming up through the ranks would actually want to come here. Right now, that's not the case.

Exactly, people who shite on Stansbury have no clue. Plus the guy recruits louisiana as well as anyone he has our best incoming player committed to him right now.
