Louisiana produces excellent athletes.... which is why we have such great football talent. Athleticism is far more important in football than basketball.
With that being said (as a whole) Louisiana high school basketball coaches don't develop the talent and aren't teachers of the game. In addition to that, our high school talent tends to be from low income families from lower educated areas.... thus contributing to low basketball IQ.
Simple fact is most talented high school players get into the AAU circuit where the ball is just rolled out on the court and the coaches are actually just glorified agents that negotiate for college scholarships.

The two best ball players in Louisiana are both committed to WESTERN KENTUCKY, where the former Miss State coach is at. Both ESPN Top 100 guys who should be coming here but they have more confidence in a lower tier directional school then LSU. Alleva should see this and that alone should lead to JJ's firing.

Do you think most coaches envisioned Marcus Thornton would be SEC player of the year and have along NBA career Or that Tasmin Mitchell would not even sniff an NBA roster? Or Garret Temple would have a 10 year NBA career while Big Baby and Tyrus or out of the league?
If Thornton had his grades together, he's easily more highly regarded, and with Mitchell, there was always uncertainty as to how he would function at the next level since he didn't get much taller for the position he plays.

Plenty more guys you could have included that were solid college players:
Chris Duhon-Duke
Greg Monroe-Georgetown
Marcus Fizer- Iowa State
Brandon Mouton-Texas
Hollis Price-Oklahoma
Clarence Moore-GTech
Just to name a few
Those were all nearly within a single recruiting cycle and are the type of guys that could have made a difference if they stayed home

Doubt this was the case when they were high school players.

I know Glen Davis...he wanted out...he has a championship ring with the Celtics. Davis was smart.
Always thought Tyrus going pro so early was a mistake. He was not ready and he got eaten up in the pros early on.

WTF???? Why? I could see not choosing LSU, but if you are a Parade AA and an All Metro selection from a big city, you have more and better choices than just WKU.

He didn't even have a sunbelt offer. You are aware that WKU is in CUSA?

1.) I guess you mean CUSA
2.) WKU is a better basketball program than LSU right now. Sorry.

I don't think he's a one and done, but he could be. Dude is good. But you are right, no way LSU gets him. LSU does not deserve a player like him, they'd find some way to frick it up.

honestly that's how high regarded I hold WKU. I was unaware that they had moved from the Sun Belt.

Im not arguing that. But if he's an ESPN top 100 player, WKU should probably not be on his radar.

Louisiana is not a great basketball state. Great athletes, Yes. That can change quickly - baseball went from average to above average to arguably exceptional in just 30 years.

If LSU had coaching that could successfully identify talent then I think we'd have a very competitive team made of in state kids. From class C to 5A, there's excellent talent here. It's just a matter of going out and getting them.

Agree. What Louisiana lacks is great coaching at the HS level. Some good ones in AAU.

We're a big enough school that should bring enough talent to compete in conference year in and year out. We need better coaching and it's as simple as that.

Why? It cannot be a lack of identifying it....
