Carrier, Ford, Fiat, Boeing.... Obama clearly had a disadvantage when he was POTUS. He didn't have a magic wand that Trump is wielding so powerfully.

FCA, the U.S. arm of automaker Fiat-Chrysler, announced on Sunday that it would invest a total $1 billion in plants in Michigan and Ohio, which will add 2000 new jobs in the United States. The announcement, in what the company said was the second phase of a plan it first made public a year ago, came days after Ford Motor Company decided to scrap a plan to build a facility in Mexico, instead opting to invest in a plant in Michigan. Ford's CEO cited demand, rather than the policies of President-elect Donald Trump, who has vowed to impose a "border tax" on companies that send jobs abroad. "Consistent and combined with previously announced investments, FCA US is further demonstrating its commitment to strengthening its U.S. manufacturing base, and aligning U.S. capacity to extend the Jeep product lineup," FCA said. In a statement, FCA said it would retool and modernize its Warren Truck Assembly Plant to produce a new Jeep and Grand Wagoneers, while a facility in Toledo would build a new Jeep pickup truck. These plans will be in place by 2020, the company said. The move "is a continuation of the efforts already underway to increase production capacity in the U.S.on trucks and SUVs to match demand," the company said, adding that it would help solidify the U.S. as "a global manufacturing hub" for its flagship brands.

why are we crediting this to Trump?

Any chance South LA get one? We could use some jerbs.

Trump will inevitably take credit for this.

You're right, actually. We should be crediting this to Bush, since everything since 2008 has been "bush' fault."

I would think significantly lowering our corporate tax rate, and imposing higher fines on companies leaving the US to setup shop outside our borders has been a main Trump campaign piece.

You don't have to do such a thing. I'm not sure if you realize it or not but most of these threads are not serious and people just taking advantage of positive news and having a little fun with it. That's how I see it anyway.
By the way, they are making Jeep Wrangler trucks. They look awful to me anyway. Bring back the J10.

You're wrong. It's already shifted to "but Obama!"

yes but they were planning on doing this before Trump, so
why can't we just give a kudos to Fiat?

Since Obama blamed everything bad on Bush for 8 years, I see no reason to credit him with anything good that happened. Anything good happened in spite of Obama, not because of him.

Let me ask you this, do you really think, a company will spend $1 billion to expand operations locally under a Clinton administration that will preserve the highest corporate tax rate in the world, as opposed to moving to Mexico, amid no penalties to do so under a Clinton Presidency, and pay some of the lowest corporate taxes in the world?
Think objectively, as a business owner, if you had the option of staying, paying exponentially more in taxes to produce the same product vs. leaving, paying a fraction in taxes to produce the same product with no penalties...which would you do? You really buying that Trump's policies aren't factoring into their decision? Really?

if they planned this a year ago, I don't see how Trump's policies matter

Well i'm not buying that they planned it a year ago. I find it interesting that it's the left leaning news organizations that mention "already planned". Common sense would tell most that a business friendly policy is more conducive to keeping jobs than one that is not.
I do believe that the option to build in the US was considered previously, but i think that Carrier and Ford's decision to stay, pushed Fiat to stay as well. The dominoes will fall in line.

There are many more factors at play here. Where is demand coming from, labor requirements and costs, cost of re-tooling an existing facility vs. building a new one., etc., etc.
With that said, no one should be "celebrating" implementation of "big border taxes" and "heavy relocation fines". They're anti-market tools that hurt companies, workers and consumers.

Lefties are now saying this? That's unexpected. Because he was talking about what lefties have been saying you know.
