I would argue that anyone going to Disney year after year as an adult hasn't grown up or evolved much at all. It's a fake, plastic, overpriced theme park that serves as the perfect symbol of the shallowness and lack of depth of present day culture.

If it helps, I think doing this every year sounds just as miserable as Disney. I did the beach a lot in college because we'd get a cheap hotel and split the room 4 ways. Last year was the first time I've been convinced to go since college, and I almost fell out at the end when it ended up costing $1500 for condo, food, and drink.. for 3 nights.

We (wife and I, no pics, no kids) don't go every year but we have gone. We don't geek it out, but that vacation was a total blast.

We did not spend 5k to go to Disney. I guess if you went for a long trip it would be that much, but we covered the whole place in a short trip.

My wife has a medical issue that requires long flights be business class, which means most of those vacations would be way more for us. Also most of those I would want to do longer than we Disney.

FWIW we have a trip scheduled to Macchu Pichu so it isn't an either/or thing.

Not true. Between fast pass and the ability to go early and do late night (Magic Kingdom is open pat midnight some nights), you can really avoid the lines.

I think 15 or 20 minutes is the longest we waited on anything. We only did that like once. Also just don't go during peak times.

I like the rides. The nostalgia was super fun. Day drinking at Disney is great. A clean rollercoaster is a godsend compared to basically every other amusement park.

There is some good food to be found if you pick carefully. Good short trip for people in the Gulf Coast area.

Parks are much less busy in February or early March and you can ride a shite ton of stuff.

Ultimately, though, if you don't like Disney you won't enjoy it.

I just don't understand the Appeal of the place......

Sure there are some cheap places. The kids and I have been to Disney a few times, but after the divorce I'm having a more difficult time of scraping together money but I'm working on it as they really want to go again. We used to go to places like Williamsburg every year (Veterans Day) and drop roughly the same once all is said and done.

While I have immensely enjoyed Disney (mostly watching the kids' reactions and enjoyment, but also for the Star Wars stuff), I would never go without the kids. Never. In my book, its all for them. My ex mother in law is one of those Disney fanatics, but then again she is seriously child-like herself.

Seaworld seems cool.....
