I got a Samick Sage 45# recurve, so now I need something to shoot it at. I've seen so many different styles, I don't even know what's good and what's junk. In y'alls experience, what's the best, what's good enough, and what should be avoided. TIA

I have a Block Black, I thinks it's called, sitting in the corner of my yard that's been there for 3 seasons. I shoot it periodically throughout the year and it's still in great shape. Arrows removal is easy too.

For a recurve a bag should be plenty for field points. Shooting broad heads at a target look at a block, black hole, or similar.

Grew up shooting broadheads into milk jugs from elevation when I was a teenager though. Worked fine for the few times I practiced with broadheads before I got a block.

I bought a black hole 18" 4 weeks ago. It's done, only shot 6 broadheads in it. Won't get another.

I shoot a lot, but damn...

Almost anything will work with a recurve. Foam blocks are probably best if you're shooting broadheads. If you're not, bags filled with rags or fiber are an option. Some traditional shooters actually build a sort of opened-fronted sand box and shoot into the sand. They just rake it back up once in a while. It will polish your arrows a bit, but it's a target that will last forever. I've been thinking about making one for myself.

That's very interesting. I may do something like that.

I did stuff a tv box full of cardboard. That stopped pretty good, but if I didn't hit it right in the middle, the arrows would go through. They were also difficult to remove.

I'd like to get something like a block that has the layered foam. It seems more durable.

I'm also wondering how a hay bale would work. Anybody have experience with that?

I don't get the love for Block targets. I shot out a Block Black in less than a month. The only positive is that they offer easy arrow removal. Rineharts are only a little more expensive and they are far, far more durable.

Maybe they've made some changes. I had a block for over 5 years at, and I used to shoot a lot. When I started trying out new broadheads that's when it finally wore out.

I have a Rinehart now and it's solid but arrow removal sucks.
