I noticed that whenever people mention the schools they send their kids too, they never refer to the schools in East Baton Rouge.

Are East Baton Rouge schools run poorly, and if so what can be done to improve them.

BTW, I am not from the Baton Rouge area, so I honestly do not have a clue as to the reason for this.

The administration is as bad as the students.

Ah...it goes back to the desegregation case for the last couple of decades. Poor school board and exodus to private schools years ago just made it a complete cluster.

It honestly starts at the top. It is just a shite show from start to finish.

Drake seems to be continuing the tradition of incompetence.

Just ask the students and teachers who were relocated due to the flood what they think about him and his administration.

All I'll say is that the new St. George petition can't come soon enough. I didn't sign last time, but I'll be one of the first to sign this time.

Ascension, Orleans Parish School Board, and St. Tammany say 'hi'.

EBR schools are terribly run, wastefully inefficient with money. There is literally zero consequences for lazy teachers or disruptive, and even violent, students. Completely worthless outside of the magnet programs.

If one can afford not to, sending one's children to public schools in EBR should be grounds for criminal negligence.

Most of the public schools are terrible, I think some of the magnet schools are ok but I don't know much about them.. Some private schools are excellent.

I wouldn't know where to start with public schools. Just part of a larger problem.

Interesting statement coming from someone who doesn't even know proper subject-verb agreement.

I don't know of any school district in the state that has been hit with a desegregation lawsuit that isn't a shadow of what it was before that lawsuit.

There are some decent elementary schools, and BR High. Everything else is pure shite. Bussing in kids from one part of the city to another is a joke. Overall school performance scores went down again this year - didn't think that was possible. No one wants to teach in EBR so overall teacher quality is low.

Vast majority of the kids go home to single moms who work evening shifts. There is no discipline at home and no family structure. Easier to steal what you want. No discipline in school because teachers are terrified of the kids.
Look no further than the news..always some story of parents called to school regarding kid's behavior and parents end up making threats and assaulting school staff and go to jail. Most decent teachers aren't going to put up with that crap.
You can't solve the problems if most of the parents aren't willing to help. Easier to put your kid in another district and just try to avoid the situation altogether. I do wish the schools would improve because BR would be better off but there are too many parents having too many kids who don't give a frick. I take care of my child and it's not up to me to take care of everyone else's when those parents don't even care. I've been involved in projects that help tutor those kids, but most of the time was spent resolving rights, figuring out which kid stole what from which other one, etc. it's seriously a sad situation.

You could put the faculty of Phillips Exeter in charge and it would still be a shite show, you just can't overcome certain things.

There are plenty of districts that consist primarily of kids in poverty that are performing much higher than EBR. EBR is a shitshow, plain and simple.
