I think between our ingenuity, advances in technology, and the logical shift to alternative energy sources (while still heavily utilizing oil and gas) we (USA) will be just fine.
I think the USA and the rest of the world will be just fine regardless. To date all forms of "alternative energy" has been a miserable failure...but the "experts" promise a breakthrough is "right around the corner"., but why degrade the environment with fake inefficient systems when fossil fuels are the cleanest, most efficient and Earth/human friendly sources readily available?

they dont use averages to do science, just see trends
quote:Another whopper. Are you claiming that solar flux = radiation loss capacity so the two "average out"?
the 24hr cycle has absolutely no bearing on the analysis other than nitetime and daytime provide the high and lows at that collection point.

it boils down to physics.. nothing more. it's just ridiculously complex and we're ~10-15 years off of having the required computing power.
I can create a physically complete model of a roulette wheel. Will it predict the result on any single spin? Nope.
If it was just "physics", I'd have all my employees working on a model of the lottery balls machine. But I know they'll never predict the outcome...

i say let artificial intelligence handle it anyways

not only is that wrong it's absurd it's not like god is waving a magic wand

if it addressed all possible variables it would be 100% accurate

No. I'm suggesting that an artificially created intelligence will one day be able to accurately predict all weather events that will occur on any given day X days into the future.. in the same way that artificial intelligence can effectively create cures for diseases, diagnose medical conditions, or function as lawyers.

Nuclear is cleaner and more efficient than fossil fuels for starters. Solar is an incredible technology and has made remarkable strides in the last 5 years. Fusion should obviously be pursued but who knows where that will go. Solar is the future.. may as well buckle up and get used to it. Will be a happy day when the big oil giants fall.

Humans have been releasing CO2 into the air since fire was discovered.

So, being second, it's cooling.

Nukes are great, but they don't have the secondary benefits of fossils.
Solar and wind are like some kind of bad joke. Their only practical use is in the homestead/commune setting.
