Newly Hired HC and recruiting

This post could/should go on both this and the recruiting board. It's frustrating seeing some of the ignorance on both boards, and that's saying something.
Some background, I have been involved with college football recruiting as a profession since 2003. This post is to clarify some extremely ignorant misconceptions about "recruiting" HS athletes. To expect a newly hired HC (O, Herman, Taggart, etc) to be hired in Nov/Dec and then have a sweeping haul of signees by Feb is unrealistic. Recruiting of players, especially top tier talent to P5 schools, begins as early as MS (Moses) and as late as Junior year of HS. NOT SENIOR YEAR. Doesn't matter the hype of the coach or the "history" of the program on his business card, reruits have years of built in relationships with other coaches/schools. You are expecting a HS senior, who has put in years of Offciial and Unoffcial visits, hundreds of coaches visits/phone calls/social media DM, etc to just change his mind in a 2 month window? Based on what???
This isn't an O pumping post or Herman pumping post, just a reality. You cannot judge either HC based on this years signing class. Signing day wins or losses in Feb 2018 will.
TL;DR- Chill out on new HCs and this years signing class, it is not a fair assessment of their potential.

People are freaking out because we didn't get the guy we wanted, but in reality any coach other than Les Miles is a step in the right direction.

Well O has been the recruiting coordinator for the past 2 years and many of the coaches on the staff remain. There really isn't any excuse for O to miss on multiple in state kids that are a position of need.
Recruiting is his strong suit right? He should be cleaning up right now since he's the HC, not missing on kids in baton rouge.

Herman, Taggart, etc, yes, you have a point
but O was hired for continuity in recruiting, he has been the recruiting coordinator for the past 2 years, the kids know him
one of the biggest selling points for O was that he could/would keep this class together
O doesn't really get the same excuses that other coaches coming in would

Maybe people need to take their purple and gold glasses off and consider, MAYBE, that not every Louisiana kid wants to play at LSU.

3 weeks ago it appeared our DC would be poached. Last week we hired our OC/QB coach......
Yet kids should just commit to 4-5 years of their lives to a program where they don't even know their offensive or defensive scheme. Even the best "recruiting gurus" can't sell something that isn't there.....like coordinators and position coaches.
-Also, as of this morning we offfically have recommitment from our 2 QBs......

and therein lies the problem with O, who has no identity as far as offense or defense
other teams can change OC/DC and the recruits still know what type of offense/defense they are likely to run because the HC has a certain identity

Good. I never stated that O was failing at recruiting. This is what he is supposed to be doing.

What is LSU's class rated right now? Is it not Top 10? Top 5 even at this point? That's with a fired head coach and staff upheaval, and O has maintained this class.
Also, let's not pretend that Les Miles had not already lost Dylan Moses' commitment. Moses did not even have LSU listed in his top 5 this year with Miles still coaching the team. Coach O can't magically FORCE kids like Moses and Allen to come here. Tell me what coach was going to keep those kids from going to Alabama save Nick fricking Saban returning here?
The argument that O must not be a good recruiter because LSU didn't sign two recruits, that likely weren't coming here regardless, after being HC for less than a month, is goddamn idiotic.

No one is saying he isn't a good recruiter. But he got this job on a whole lot of hard to obtain promises
Hell if I'm not going to hold him to his own standards.
And please stop acting like Oregeron just got on staff this month. He's been recruiting for us for years now. He's not in the same situation as taggart or Herman.

We currently sit at 4th (247 rankings)with 7 spots to fill. 5 Star DT Marvin Wilson is currently trending heavily LSU (an Ed O - recruit). 5 Star WR Devonta Smith added LSU as his final visit. We just added the #1 JUCO WR last week.
So tell me again why the sky is falling?

Taggart I agree with - going from the state of Florida to Oregon. O has been at LSU for two years and Herman coached at Houston for two years. They should have been meeting local coaches and players for those two years. It's not like either one moved across the country and have no contacts.
LSU has the #4 ranked class in the country with more spots available.
Herman was anointed the next great head coach - moved 165 miles and can't even get prospects to visit. Those prospects include kids who had already committed to him at UH. The UT fans were expecting a huge uptick in recruiting and the total opposite has happened.
Their natives are perplexed by all of the rejection they have been receiving since Herman was named coach.

Taggart was at Stanford when Harbaugh was there so I'm sure he has a couple contacts. Definitely not starting from scratch

This is not Ed O's fault.
Moses showed his lack of loyalty to Baton Rouge and LSU when he left U High to go to IMG.
From that point on he was going to Bama.
It is said it was because of the LM firing but that's BS.
He played the recruitment system like many do.
Shae Patterson was at Calvary Baptist for two years before he went to IMG? Decommitted from Arizona, committed to OM and then went to IMG. Was never going to play for LSU.
Notice a pattern? Conspiracy theorists sure would.

Have we not? we are now ranked 4 in the country, the ones we lost are now recommitted. The only negative is that we lost Moses and Allen to Bama (which stings a lot) but neither were commits when O took over. I would say he did a great job of keeping this class together.

Stanford, CA is 564 miles from Eugene, OR. Herman moved a couple hours away from his established recruiting area of the last couple years. Taggart is nine hours away from contacts he may or may not still have in the area since he hasn't been in CA since 2009.
