Well, so much for what you guys posted. The Joker quarter looks like a 500 tourney by itself.

And Serena is out for IW and Miami.

Changed my trip to the 11th thru the 13th to hopefully catch some of those insane 3rd round matchups on Monday. I'm sure I'll get screwed and get the Murray half of the bracket though.

I've learned with tennis tournaments that you just have to expect the absolute worst and if it's even halfway what you'd hope for, that's a win. I'm still pissed at Serena for pulling out of her semi two years ago right before it, acting like she was on death's door, then showing up in Miami the next week. I think it was a payback move to Indian Wells for the old stuff, but whatever. Despite that, I got to see Rafa for the first time in my life, plus Roger, Murray, and Milos. Can't ask for anything more than that. At least with Indian Wells you have an almost virtual guarantee you won't get screwed by rain.

On edit, I missed Novak's match due to a withdrawal, too. But, I was front row for his practice session.

Good point. You can't get a lot of great matchups and also see dozens of players on a limited budget with a limited time frame. And yeah the weather makes it worthwhile regardless.

Still can't believe that 5 of these guys (Joker, Rafa, Roger, Kyrgios, Delpo, Zverev) are guaranteed to be out before the semis. Makes me think there should be an option to re-draw one time if the results are beyond outrageous.

so djoker has to get thru JMDP, kyrgios, and then fed to get to Murray on Sunday

why do I remember Murray getting much easier draws as the 2 seed all last year?

Won't be there until Wednesday for the Round of 16, so gonna miss Djok vs. Delpo and Zverev v. Kyrgios third round matches, which I'm not too happy about. Upside is that I should get to see Fedal 36 and the winner of Djok/Delpo vs. Zverev/Kyrgios right off the bat on Wednesday in the Round of 16.

I'm a huge Djok fan and seeing him beat Fed to win the tourney in person in 2015 was awesome, but was also looking forward to seeing Delpo play for the 1st time this year. Unfortunately one of the two will be out by the time we arrive.

Still it should be an awesome tournament, and hopefully we'll still get some good matchups in the semis and the final. Any match will be better than the beatdown Djok gave Raonic in last year's final.

Deadspin - the Indian Wells draw is one big clusterfrick.

I still don't get why tennis draws are the way they are, but whatever.

I'm stealing this from the comments section...

"One is so that you don’t end up with similar match-ups week after week on the tour. Rankings obviously change, but the years of 1. Fed 2. Nadal 3. Djoko 4. Murray would have produced many repeats of Fed-Murray / Nadal-Djoko semis. This provides some variability.

Another (ridiculous but nonetheless possible) reason is if you know who you’re slated to play in a specific round in an upcoming tournament due to hard-wired seeding, you may be incentivized to tank in a current match to avoid them. To give a hypothetical: at the start of his career, Roger had a hard time against David Nalbandian. If for the upcoming grand slam tournament he was #1 in the world and Nalbandian was #8, they’d be slated to meet in the QF. Federer might be incentivized to lose in the warmup event in order to drop his ranking to #2, thus drawing the 7th ranked player, say Andy Roddick (whom Roger owned), instead in the quarters. Randomizing the seeds removes this (improbable) possibility. Now, the #1 seed could play anyone seeded 3-4 in the semis, 5-8 in the quarters, 9-16 in the fourth round, and 17-32 in the third round of a grand slam (barring upsets, of course.)"

I wonder if that guy from twitter banged her out on their date. I would not be surprised if so.

In the "Who cares?" department, I have Lauren Davis making a run to the semis at IW. I got her at a ridiculous 250/1. They only let me put $25 down though.

I think those are fair odds. I'm pretty confident that he could have gotten balls deep had he been assertive to that end. I see Genie adopting a "sex is what you do at the end of a date, period" general worldview. Which is refreshing and should be praised and copied.

Linked in that article: Kyrgios future of tennis if he ever decides to give a shite

I could have written that myself. The guy's top form is beyond anything we've seen before -- literally. That's such a bold statement, but I believe it. It's actually really infuriating to watch at times. I'm like, "Nick, do you realize what people would give to be as good at tennis as you are? You gotta respect the gift, bro!"

It's not even that he can't keep his head on straight and actually try hard for entire tournaments, or entire matches. No no. Dude can't even seem to give good, old-fashioned, honest 100% effort for entire POINTS. Tweeners mid-rally against Novak Djokovic? Really dude?

It's his decision whether he wants to be an absolute tennis legend or a more talented version of Gael Monfils. I have little confidence the former will occur, but ti could. He's that good at tennis.

The 2nd-to-last paragraph is pretty telling. Most players won't admit that.
