I have an idea to help Social Security and Medicare, the proceeds to be earmarked to those funds.

ONE...A United States Lottery..legal in all 50 states.

TWO... Legalize Marijuana in all 50 states and impose a federal tax on sales just like cigarettes.

THREE...Collect a five dollar Federal cover charge per person at every bingo hall, dog and horse track or other gaming facility in the country. Same thing at every club or bar or wherever alcohol is sold.

FOUR...One cent Federal tax on all non alcoholic beverages sold in the country.

These taxes and fees are all voluntary and not repressive IMO, and should raise considerable revenue to help prop up the aforementioned funds, freeing up money to go elsewhere.

Your second statement is not a logical argument against the inverse of your first statement.

All tax can be theft, and is. Whether this is true or not has nothing logically to do with whether man without government equals anarchy, nor whether anarchy is good or bad.

Recommend reading the article I've linked twice in this thread. I cannot find a flaw in the authors logic.

I'm not very familiar which the proposed mechanics, how does it do this? I'd assume the tax would be taxed at the time of sale so how do they not pay tax on it? The only way I can think of is either they carry around proof of their income with them for every purchase they make or they save receipts for every purchase they make, submit it at the end of the year, and get a refund. Either scenario sounds difficult to implement.

It's based on the assumption that 100% of their spending is on goods essential for survival (food, clothing, medicine, etc.)

Funny thing. You anti-tax people all want a bigger military, more police on the street, more jails, and better schools for the kids. I guess the tooth fairy will be the provider.

It is a funny thing. I literally want none of those things.

In any event, my argument wasn't about pragmatic ways to pay for government. I'm merely pointing out that taxation is compulsory, with force as it's stick, and therefore theft.

I agree to a degree of taxation that isn't compulsory. Therefore, I'm outside of those two.

That sounds like the abstract notion.

Flesh that out for me. What taxation isn't compulsory?

My tax proposals would raise a lot of money and would NOT be compulsory. If you choose to smoke pot, gamble, drink or drink soft drinks juice and waters you pay. You do not have to do those things.

Please enlighten me as to why we don't have this simple and equitable taxation model?

If you are talking about this being an additive to the current tax burden, I am going to hunt you down and end it.

If you are talking about it replacing the fed income tax then you may be on to something. But as others have said (essentially) sales tax is a regressive tax - lower income people/families pay more on a percentage basis.

It would be much better

Illegals and drug dealers would be paying their share of taxes.

The sales tax discourages people from buying things. An income tax is far better.

The sales tax does make some amount of sense at the state level because states can't necessarily a big bureaucracy to collect and audit everybody's income tax form.

An income tax is better at the national level though.

Except for the part where it is complete theft, void of consent, and immoral.

So, you actually would rather live in a country that provides no basic enforcement of laws as long as you don't have to pay a single cent of taxes. No military, no schools, no roads, no law enforcement, no jails, and so forth.

Replace all corporate taxes with a national sales tax...consumers pay them anyway and it would eliminate a sizeable weapon in the government's ability to pick and choose winners and losers

You don't think people are discouraged from buying when the government reduces their paycheck by 25% or more?

This would be the anarchist's utopia.

I sympathize with the idea, but I understand that in reality it is as un-achievable as the communist's utopia.
