Hunting and Ski Vacation

I am looking go on a family ski trip in Colorado a year from now. It will probably be 6 couples. Not all are able to ski or not as interested in skiing. All of us would be interested in spending a day hunting. Any kind would probably be good deer, elk, duck, goose? Does anyone have any suggestions on a base location for skiing but not too far from somewhere to hunt?

I think you can scratch hunting and skiing from the same vacation, most seasons are done before December. Tags are not easy to get, and big game hunting in the mountains requires lots of time and usually requires pack mules.

That is a dream crusher.

You should probably plan your trip around the hunting season and then if there's skiing open in someplace like Colorado or Montana (maybe big sky?) plan on going after. If there's no snow early December (there usually is) then you may just have to make this a hunting trip

There are definitely late season elk seasons open around the country, Wyoming for one has one. Basically its cow elk usually. Not sure what all states offer this type of thing, but I know that most of them are in snow.
I know for a fact you could do Jackson Hole skiing and late season cow elk. I don't know about anywhere else.
I bet in Idaho you could shoot geese and maybe ducks while there is snow on the mountains at Big Sky and Jackson Hole. Not sure of the ability to do both though.

On a spring break trip to Utah a few years ago, my son and I skied in the morning and fly fished in the afternoon. Great day.

That may be something to look at too. I've never fly fished.

Insanely jealous. On my short list to do with my sons when they're older.

Current discussion on the Outdoor Board about moose and elk hunting.
Has anybody gone elk or moose hunting before?
