It's remarkable how few here are familiar with the parochial past of LSU's AD. The meddling of unqualified, greaser politicos and local hucksters is precisely what crippled LSU FB for most of its history. The state has always been full of incestuous, clubby dolts ready to fondle the LSU FB program like pederast uncles. It was only when Emmert hired Saban, when the AD took on an air of professionalism and shook off the clawing good ole boys, that the sleeping giant awoke. This is all fairly well documented, but appears to have been forgotten in the glow of our recent successes.

The more I think about, the more concerned I become that Alleva has done something dangerous, delivering LSU back into the hands of rubes and swamp plotters. The real test will come if O struggles. Hope I'm wrong and that the AD will be run like a legitimate business intent on championships.

I think we are headed back to an athletic department the way Bob Brodhead found it:

Arriving on campus, I did find several things which the auditors had not included in their report: an Athletic Department shredded by disloyalty from within; rampant paranoia; constant interference by the Chancellor; a host of hand-picked informants who reported directly, and regularly, to Wharton and Roberts; the relegation of "the minor sports," a label worn by everything but football and basketball, to second-class citizen status; and a mad scramble by department personnel to find a niche in the Chancellor's power group. Judas would have felt right at home on the LSU campus.

Sacked, p. 41.
