I am 63 and a dad, an LSU fan from Louisiana since 1957, consider myself somewhat casual, and support Coach O as the new head coach of The Fighting Tigers football team.

This is the case. I follow espn on Facebook and when they broke the story of O's hiring the comments were 95% in favor of the hiring, and you could tell none of these people were LSU fans or really hardcore college football fans at all.
