Yup, there are only 3 coaches at or above 6 mil.
Herman is a good coach, not top 3, not yet anyway.

He doesn't deserve 6 mill. Classic apple sheep logic

But a DL coach with only Nichols State at the door warrants just under 4 million.

Not $6M.
We made Saban the 5th highest paid coach in 1999 based totally on potential. At the time, it may as well have been $6 mil.

Explain what coach O did so fricking magical to warrant over a 500% increase in pay by some accounts.

They could have countered and offered big incentives for the sec west title, sec championship game, and a new year's six bowl before saying no we will get our d line coach.

If you are a top program your head coach gets top money. I don't care what he has done or who he is, top programs pay their leaders top money.
You are not a top program if you aren't willing to pay the coach you want top money. Simple as that.

Tired of begging coaches to come here. I will support O even though not my first choice. If he or others didn't want to be here then F them.

This is probably not the whole story. If we are reportedly willing to pay Orgeron/Kiffin a combined 5.5, we would be willing to pay Herman 6. Herman's agent was probably trying to take a 6 million offer to Texas to start the bidding war.

I see you're a Saints fan. How's that top money on a head coach been working out for you?

I concur. It was not going to stop at 6 and with Strong out the door, we were just going to be leverage for Herman to milk Texas for more. The moment that Texas job was made available, I don't believe we stood a chance.

Hasn't hurt at all. Benson can pay as much as he wants, it has no negative impact. It does let the rest of the league know if we want to hire someone else in the future we will pay top dollar. It makes the job attractive.
LSU just fired their most successful coach in history because he wasn't more successful. Which made the job risky for anyone to take. I mean if they fired that guy would I have a job in 5 years if I don't win two national titles? So, they asked for big money to take such a risk and LSU told them no. So, it sends the message we expect titles or we will fire you and on top of that we ain't paying for titles. Sounds like an unattractive job to me.
