Different situation. Dabo was a coordinator that was elevated. A guy that had never been a head coach. Orgeron, is a failed head coach and an elevated position coach.

So we keep Ensminger, right? Look at all those records on offense.

Did you answer your own question?

I guess you'd rather us not set school records or win games so it can more conveniently support your position?

Are the only people capable of success those who have already enjoyed success?

Saban had ONE season with more than 7 wins at Michigan St and lost every bowl game he coached before we hired him.

Lane Kiffin was repeatedly hired based on his supposed offensive genius as a coordinator, yet he failed everywhere he went as a head coach.

Some coaches get better with time (see: Saban) and some coaches get worse with time (see: Miles). That's just the way it is.

The dismissal of Orgeron's abilities as a coach based on his record at one school 10 years ago is so incredibly short-sighted, particularly given his success here and at USC. If we swing and miss on Fisher and Herman, then I hope O gets the job.

And it has nothing to do with his fricking accent.

The affirmation of his abilities is based on two stints as an interim coach against mostly subpar opponents. Nevermind that it is hard to gauge the successes of an interim coach because often, in most sports, teams respond favorably with the introduction of an interim. Whether it be because they inject some freshness in an already stale environment or the players respond to the differing style favorably. In the end, this upswing usually levels off. This sample isn't even large enough to be very confident about it.

There is a reason that no other team is clamoring to hire him. Why he could not sniff an interview at Syracuse.

Do Les Miles and Coach Cam beat Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Texas A&M this year. After what you saw the first four games?

Les Miles would have beaten every team Coach O beat but also delivered a win against Florida. He was fired early in the season because Alleva, for as bad as he is, was smart enough to recognize that fact and put O in place to audition for the role but really more importantly to give the school time to let the fallout from firing a National Title winning coach blow over before starting the coaching search in full swing.

In my opinion, while he's not a huge downgrade from Les Miles, Coach O is still a downgrade. Our guys look sloppy and unfocused on the field, the conditioning has fallen off, and they look as confused as ever on the play calling from time to time. Our schedule next year is brutal compared to this year and we have a good chunk of talent graduating. I would prepare yourself for another 7 win season next year if we don't land Herman (Fisher seems to be out of the mix) because even with upgraded staff at the coordinator positions we're going to have some serious problems that will just get worse and worse, and we won't have the same clout of being seen as an elite program the next time we go on a coaching search.

Clemson was not a big time program when dabo got the job. They had ZERO top 20 finish since 2000. their highest final ranking was 21st.
And dabo actually took over the playcalling while he was interim.

The clemson situation isnt comparable to lsu's.

I think the only "keepable" person on the staff is Aranda...

This is such a tired, one-sided excuse - as if the only factor that exists in judging a coach's merit is whether they are considered for a vacancy when it occurs.

If you base your hiring decisions on what other teams may or may not do, then you are failing the team and your fans with that kind of logic. You hire someone who is the best fit for YOUR needs - frick everybody else.

Do you think when a head coaching position in the SEC opens up that the teams interview a dozen different candidates? Of course not. They have a very short list based on factors that may or may not include:

- Is the coach a good fit for the talent and scheme?
- Is the coach actively looking to leave for another position?
- What are the terms of his current contract?
- What do the buyout numbers (if any) look like?
- What kind recruiting abilities does he possess?
- What kind of coaching experience does he have?

Annnd, as I'm writing this I see they have apparently announced Orgeron as head coach, so I guess I'll stop explaining how CEO could become the new head coach at LSU.

Well done, "Corch." You deserve the shot.

A sign of higher intelligence is to provide an example of 2 coaches who weren't hired as HC after serving as interim HC.
