We've hired the 'Tom Herman' twice before

Let me say 1st, I hope we do hire Herman and I hope were not being played. Having said that, under similar circumstances we helped Mac Pack and hired the young, up coming, offensive innovator and hot commodity, Bo Rein in 1980. Tragically, he would never coach a game.
10 years and several coaching experiments later we tapped another up coming, hot commodity, Hudson 'Curly' Hallman. Hallman, a defensive coach by trade, had riden a once in a lifetime QB, Brett Favre to Southern Miss's all time best record, while defeating the likes of Alabama and Florida State in major upsets.
His success did not translate to the SEC and Hallman ushered in the darkest of the dark ages of LSU Football.
This is a different time and Tom Herman would be inheriting a different program than Hallman and hopefully will have the opportunity to prove himself at this level, unlike Bo Rein.
As they say, third time .....
Geaux Tigers
Edit: Bold added to emphasize, this is not a knock on Herman. He's the best coach we could hire, imo. Just providing a little historical perspective...

Tom Herman is a member of Mensa International and you compared him to Curley Hallman?
Posted on 11/25/16 at 6:37 am to More&Les
curley hallman wasn't that highly thought of, we just didn't wanna pay for anyone. why do you think we stuck with him for so long?

How did I compare him to Hallman, other than Hallmans background at SM and being the hot commodity?

Bo Rein is a good correlation.
I don't see the Curley. The problem with LSU was Arnsparger departure and Archer recruiting. Archer is shite to LSU fans, but he was a good enough DC IMO. Curley was all Joe Dean. He had no place being HC at LSU. But when you're penny pinching and counting $1 black, it's all good right?
Some people have vision and foresight and some don't.

You said "We've hired the 'Tom Herman' twice before", with one of those hires being Hallman. How is that not a comparison?

You just started a thread calling Corley hallman the "Tom Herman." Sport

he was a name that got some attention, but he wasn't exactly commanding top dollar.

What about comparing Tom Herman to Kevin Sumlin?

you're comparing tom herman to curley hallman?
wow
wow

As I said in my first sentence, I hope we hire Tom Herman. As I said in my last, it's not the same situation as Curly, I'm just saying we've been down this road before. Once was probably the best hire LSU has ever made, sans Saban, the other was the worst.
I think TH is more akin to us hiring Bo and hopefully this time he will live a long and prosperous life.
Geaux Tigers!

so you compared him to curley hallman.
anything else you wanna enlighten the board with this morning?
Posted on 11/25/16 at 6:55 am to More&Les
Nick Saban did a lot with very little, too early on his career.
Herman may suck. He may be football Jesus. But if Jimbo isn't an option, is there really a better choice out there?

I mean yea, they are both coaches that had success at smaller schools so I was also comparing him to Tommy Bowden before FSU, Spurrier before Florida, Urban Myer before Florida, Bear before Bama, etc...
My point was the 'hot commodity' tag and I clearly said the circumstances are different and I WANT us to hire Herman so I obviously don't think he's another Hallman.

I agree, but he was a hot commodity
But your real point is hiring X == unknown results. And to that I call bullshite because it's true for everyone, everything. LSU could pull Saban from Bama and we go 2-10. There are no guarantees.
So... what do you base any hire on? Resume, Talent, Fit.
If anyone doesn't agree on that, no hope.

I hope (and beleive) he's better than Sumlin...
