Oregon's barely in the top 50.

LSU is a great job. It does lack the resources of other schools, but shouldn't aim for lower candidates. Historical rankings are overrated.

Not in the Athletics department which is all that matters for this job. LSU is one of the largest and most profitable Athletic departments in the country - google it if you don't believe me!

Agree. Except Notre Dame. That brand of football is extinct.

We are not worried about Historically, we are talking about now. Are you saying LSU is not a top 5 program NOW?

Every coach has his own views on what jobs are great. Some look at facilities and ease to recruit and win. If that's your outlook, LSU is very high.
If your outlook is nostalgic with a desire to be more recognized and revered nationally, ND would be higher.

LSU is a community college compared to a school like Michigan. That does matter. Their endowment is 4x LSU's. Their alumni base drawfs LSU. Nothing to be ashamed of, but to say otherwise is you just being a homer.

do we forget what Schnellenberger, Johnson, Erickson, and Davis did at Miami when most recruits came from only the southern part of the state?

Arguments in this thread are pointless. Just as every poster has a different pecking order, so does every coach. It's not universal that every coach would consider LSU a top 5 job.

I could care less about any success prior to 20 years ago. LSU is a top 5-6 job now. Once Saban leaves bama, they will no longer be that at all. Same logic applies to Michigan and Ohio State.

Not to most 5 and 4 star recruits. Especially when you are pulling from south Texas to the pan handle of Florida.
In the grand scheme of things for an average applicant, you are right. But we must view this through a different lense.

You are living in the past. I already told you I agree with you regarding Historically - LSU was never thought of as a top 5 job.
But we aren't living in the past are we? Miami will never become the Miami of old would you like to know why?
Because they can't pay their players anymore without getting caught!!! The school is WAY too small to be dominate again without cheating and the stadium is WAY too far off campus!!!
Miami had their 15mins of fame "because the cheated their asses off" and they are now done. But they weren't ever thought of as a top 5 traditional program either until they cheated to get there in the 80's and 90's!!!

They can't understand that, all these recruits we are talking about care about making the NFL that is going to be their profession not academics!!

Bingo.
Anyone that thinks LSU is better than these jobs is dreaming.
You are a better job than anither school if you can take their head coach, which means you can pay more, have better resources, and can recruit nationally. LSU could not take a coach from any of those schools right now. If Saban retired tomorrow, Bama could take any coach they wanted with the talent that is there (they would fall off eventually though). Ohio State and Michigan are a step down from that, then you have the Texas money train.
USC is in a class of it's own. Football powerhouse in Los Angeles. LSU and Baton Rouge cannot compete with that. USC is just a sexier name in college football.

So you think Bama could go hire Urban or Harbaugh? No way!
Those 5 schools are in a class of their own they can't poach from within!

Alabama USC Norte Dame Michigan Florida Texas Ohio State Are all better programs throughout history. Just because two boobs said on ESPN that we are top five does not make it so. We've perhaps had the potential to be so, but we're just not.
If you really want to be a dumbass you should throw in Army, Yale, Harvard in there because over the last 150 years they are bigtime. We don't have to be a top 5 program, we just have to be a top open job.
