Do we see a shift in the way they are conducted or was this just a miss due to the oddity that was the Trump?

Miss due to Trump being Trump

Agree. This one was hard to call and in defense of the polls, most of them had HRC's lead within the margin of error. The problem wasn't so much that they were really badly off. The problem was that people -particularly the media failed to read the fine print and ignored that the margin for error exists for a reason.

There will be "post-mortems" among that field just like there will be for Democrat party
The way polling methods adapt to these lessons will be interesting AF

Additionally no one wanted to accept that anyone still "undecided" going to the polls was going to be a Trump Supporter, if you weren't with her yet knowing full well what you get nothing was going to change on the car ride. The uncertainty, but potential promise with Trump was enough

They constantly poured cold water on the idea that Trump could be President. The people didn't buy it.
