You're assuming that the goal is to derail Hillary. There are many other goals wikileaks might have other than beating back Hillary before the election.

Derailing Hillary and making sure she never has the power is the easier path. If she becomes president then taking her down gets exponentially harder.

Let's start by saying that I don't know what wiklileaks purpose is. Here are some purposes that would not necessarily involve leaking these things to defeat her.
1. They simply are just publishing the leaks without an agenda.
2. They want to delegitimize her in victory and throw the country into chaos.
3. They want to blackmail her in victory or defeat.

If I had the goods on Hillary, and If I had been living in an Ecuadorean embassy for four year to avoid extradition I would do one of the following....
...do everything I can make sure Hilary does not become US president. curry favor with the winning party/Trump to make sure I can live the rest of my life in peace.
...or cut a deal with the Dems so that I can live the rest of my life in peace.
all of this makes me believe he does not have the goods and/or may have not been aggressive enough to save his own arse.
I dunno. I would think he wants to have more freedoms than being held in a "prison"
