Used the data given by Spotrac

Active Player Cap : $2,864,901,848

Active Players : 450

Average Salary : $6,366,448.55

Note: this does not contain dead cap and players not on rosters at the moment.

To put this number into perspective if we assume that the average person works for 45 years in his/her life (22 to 67) then the average salary would come out to over $140,000 a year to make that $6.3 million in your life time

see when these athletes kneel or protest the anthem and say they're opposed to the oppression, I think they're missing that part about people making millions not being oppressed

Whether you agree or not, you seem to be missing entirely their point.

Basketball players are the greatest physical specimens on earth. You'll never see an athlete with the physical attributes of LeBron playing in another sport. They deserve every penny as far as I'm concerned.

Both. But emphasize on the latter. Can't speak for the NFL but the NBA is doing a lot of good things for its players that it's hard for me to believe over half will be broke.

Volleyball players are pretty athletic too. During the Olympics they were bouncing out of the gym and they're all between 6'3 and 6'8 aside from the skilled servers who are around 6ft.

A real shame they're not uber marketable.

That would be good if the players follow programs set in place, but its probably hard for the low salary players to save money when others are spending it out of control.

The number should be around 25% or lower imo

I imagine it'd be hard for anyone who comes into that kind of money so soon in life to always make the fiscally responsible decision while constantly surrounded by other rich athletes and famous people who encourage living above their means.

Eta: not to mention everyone who thinks you owe them something.

A ton of NBA players nowadays attended some fancy private school in high school, come from good families, and are now at least spending some time at college.

Sure there will be dumbasses out there, but half is stretch.

Yeah...Basketball is pretty clearly the sport you should choose if you somehow had pro options in the major sport of your choice--average salary, contracts that are actually contracts for both parties, overseas options if you want to keep playing a while, etc Conversely, Football should be last.

They need to pay rookies more. They are doing this at the expense of not raising the rookie scale.

The first pick of the draft, Ben Simmons, makes 10 million dollars a year less than Cody Zeller will get next year

I don't think a single NBA player has done that though.

The biggest financial mistake players make is getting married. As the marriage rate goes down, less players will lose money in divorces and alimony which will mean less bankruptcy
