Go buy the torsion spring and two bars to wind the spring. Took me about 35 minutes after watching a youtube video a month ago.

I've replaced garage door springs twice, once for myself and once for a neighbor. It's not difficult but complete attention is required--mistakes can be painful.

Replace the torsion springs in pairs as the spring which is not broken has been used just as many times as the spring which did break and will be coming to the end of its useful life soon.

Do your research and if you are comfortable with the process, change the springs yourself. If you don't feel confident, call a repairman.

Doing the job myself gave me the opportunity to uses springs rated for 110,000 cycles: overkill yes, but I don't plan to replace these springs ever again!
