Les Miles is on the prowl for a new job.

Miles, fired at LSU last month, has hired Trace Armstrong to an agency team that still includes longtime agent George Bass, Miles told The Advocate during a brief phone interview Friday.

Armstrong, a former Pro Bowl defensive end and first-round NFL draft pick, is one of the more powerful sports agents in the profession. He represents Ohio State's Urban Meyer, Notre Dame's Brian Kelly, Houston’s Tom Herman and Penn State's James Franklin.

Miles’ decision to expand his agency team is a sign he's serious about coaching again. He’s ramping up his search for employment with one of the most proven, experienced agents around.

"I'm fighting like heck," he told The Advocate on Friday, "trying to win a championship at another place."

Miles must at least attempt to find a new coaching job, a provision in a buyout clause that will pay about $9.6 million over the next six years — more than $133,000 per paycheck. He is slated to receive his first buyout check Monday, according to language in his contract. He'll get checks on the last day of each month.

If nobody hires him again, all those people bashing us for firing him need to eat crow. All we've done is break records but most importantly win

I went to high school with Trace at a John Carroll here in Birmingham. Played with the Dolphins and the Bears. Really good guy.

Let's win against a team that is actually good before throwing a parade.

If I were him I'd conduct my interviews like he did his press conferences. Obfuscate obfuscate obfuscate. Talk, but say nothing.

That way he can at least claim to be looking for a new job while ensuring that no one actually hires him, allowing him to sit on his yacht enjoying all that buyout money.

We shall see. I wouldn't be surprised if he were to rejoin his buddy Chavis at A&M after Aggy implodes and Sumlin is fired.

I'm thinking he goes back to the Big 10 and takes the Purdue job. Baylor will also give him a look.

Baylor would actually be a good fit for his style of play.

I'd love to see him run Notre Dame even further into the ground.

wrong...there are a hell of a lot of teams that would love to have a coach with a proven record like Miles has. most teams don't fire coaches during the year, but you can bet a good number have him on their short list to call at the end of the season.

I just hope he stays out of the SEC for a while.

No. His style is best suited for playing against Big 12 (sic) style teams.

He did very well against the likes of TCU, TTU, Oregon, WVU, etc.

I know Oregon is PAC 12, but they run that same style of up-tempo spread option that is vogue in the Big 12.

I think a Les Miles Baylor team would do very well in the Big 12.

It's hard to say what he thinks about coaching again. That check most likely doesn't impress him at all and he very well might be looking for redemption. He might be embarrassed with the success under CEO and feel that he wants to show hos worth at another school instead of making less than half of what he would be bringing in while working.

It's all about what he wants to do since retirement isn't that far away for him why wouldn't he want to go to one last school?

You make a valid point. I was just saying what I would do if I were him.

If I was being paid $133k to not work, I'd take it. I'd buy a nice fishing boat and spend as much time on the water as possible. If i had to ibterview for potential job openings every now and again so be it, but if getting said jobs didn't come with a substantial pay increase, I wouldn't sincerely try to get one.

That's just me though. Les probably has a much more noble attitude about it than I would if I were in the same situation.
