New terminal under construction to be for 30 gates. They are planning to add 6 more.

Figure 6 flights per day per gate. This is great for continued work for international service, and hopefully focus city designation from Southwest as Hobby and Love Field get built out.

Knowing New Orleans construction, it'll be projected to be complete in 2020 and done by 2032

Gotta start the bid process now so all the Airport Commission family members aren't out of wor k pending the start of new construction. I love me some NOLA but the amount of graft and nepotism never ceases to amaze.

I posted about this in the BA LHR flight thread and got down voted. But the new terminal was designed to be too small from the get go. (Currently have 42 gates, new terminal will start with 30 + these 6) and the terminal will go from 6 customs accessible gates to 2. They pulling a fast one on taxpayers.

With continuous growth since Katrina. MSY has far surpassed Pre-Katrina numbers in all aspects and growth doesn't seem to be slowing down. A lot of people were worried that the new terminal was being built too small from the beginning.

The outgoing director was great. Hopefully whoever they bring in to replace him can continue to build on his success.

It is absolutely stupid to expand the terminals at a land locked airport. MSY has two run ways with no place to put any new ones.

My dad transferred from Lakefront Airport to the Moisant Stock Yards in 1961 and retired in 2002.

It has always been - and will always be - a vehicle for the repayment of political patronage.

Can any old time New Orleanians, from their own recollection, give me a one year period in their lifetime when one facet of the airport wasn't under major construction - terminal, runway, parking facilities, roadways, baggage claim, etc?

So another expansion to bilk the citizens and subcontractors of their money. Nice one.

MSY isn't in that bad of a location to just become the New Orleans/Baton Rouge International Airport. Rail service from MSY to Baton Rouge would help but I'm not sure it's that necessary.

If they rework the exits at MSY to have direct access to/from MSY from the west on I-10 that would save an additional 3-4 minutes for the trip (which is not that bad as it stands). Even without reworking the exit, to catch a flight at MSY driving from Baton Rouge I leave the house 2.5 hours ahead of departure. Growing up in Chicago I'd have to leave 2.5-3 hours ahead of time to catch a flight at ORD, and I lived closer to the airport than most people in the Chicagoland area.
