who is the better of he and Allen?
Posted on 10/25/16 at 6:12 pm to Bayoutigre
Different positions cuz.

Allen, but they would play different roles if I remember right. His offer was contingent on him getting his grades up when he camped over the summer, maybe the staff saw what they wanted to see and turned up the heat.

His grades are up this year. It took a busy offseason to get him to finally wake up academically. Had always had the smarts, just was lazy.

Not sure he'll get an offer unless we miss on a few guys.

I interviewed him after a game this year. He told me if LSU offers he would commit. This must mean he finally got the offer.

He has made it clear in interviews, in so many words, that LSU is his favorite. Jones has a big offer list which includes Texas, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Georgia and a host of others.
The fact LSU reportedly has not offered him is probably a testament to how many other top linemen LSU is in on.
But those linemen must be out of state as there are view SEC caliber defensive ends in the state this year.
LSU does have a verbal from Aaron Moffit at defensive end. I am not sure that is his final position and Moffit's offer sheet does not compare to Jones.
So I think its reasonable to believe his decommitment reflects renewed interest form LSU. There are not that many guys his size with his athleticism out there. Its the old bird in a hand thing. I don't know who LSU thinks they will land over Jones.
Maybe grades is the issue, I do not know. I would not pass on Jones if he projects to qualify.

The issue is still the same as it was this summer, he doesn't fit into Aranda's 3-4. He's a 4-3 DE.

After seeing him play in person I disagree. He looks like a 3-4 OLB to me. He has the frame to play either but more natural body type to play olb in a 3-4.

I think the staff doesn't think he can play OLB. Sounds like he going to go to OU.

I taught him last year's chemistry and am currently teaching his physics this semester. He has no grade issues unlike a lot seem to expect. Talk to him about this stuff all of the time and he has never mentioned OU or any other schools other than Ole Miss (prior to the decommit) and LSU and always raves about the game day experiences at LSU each game he attends.
I can expect there has to be SOME talk from LSU with him or else the decommit timing is a bit odd, regardless of the NCAA sanction rumors.

I don't buy that. 6' 5" 240 lb players who have great athleticism are few and far between. Coaches like Aranda find places to fit in good football players.
The only defensive end commit LSU has is Tommy Moffit who is roughly the same size as Jones, does not have near the offer list and plays the same position. So he fits in Aranda's scheme and Jones does not?
Jones is 18 years old. With his frame he could play at 290 and easily play up front in a 3-4 or stay at 240 and play the rush olb.
There is no other defensive end recruit in La close to Jones in talent. Who decided he doesn't fit into our scheme? Arden Key was a 6'6" 230 lb player recruited as defensive end. Would he as a high school recruit not have fit into Aranda's scheme.
Give a good football coach a good football player and he will find a place in his scheme that works.

You dont have to or not, but that was exactly the reason explained by the people in the know when this was discussed last time around for Jones. They worked him out over camps and decided not to offer because they felt he wasn't athletic/quick enough to play LB but also they feel he couldn't put on the size and strength they want on the DL either. Felt like he's really made to play non-rush side end in a 4-3.

And he doesnt have great athleticism which is why they feel like he couldn't play LB in this system, which is why he never got an offer. Keep in mind we're pretty desperate for linebackers too.
Things can obviously change, but as of right now, he still doesn't hold an offer for those reasons.
