LSU head coach Ed Orgeron knows what it takes to lure top prospects to his program.

What Orgeron is trying to figure out is how to make the most of the Tigers' current situation. The interim head coach has done a masterful job in keeping the 2017 LSU recruiting class largely intact, with only one defection since Les Miles' departure coming by way of junior college wide receiver Stephen Guidry, who withdrew his verbal pledge shortly after Miles' firing.

The Tigers have a gargantuan SEC battle set for Alabama on November 5, which ordinarily would call for a vast range of recruiting visitors, including official visits, but not this go-around, according to sources within the program. Orgeron has decided to save LSU's official visits for after the season in an attempt to allow the LSU staff to finish strong after athletic director Joe Alleva makes his decision on who will be in charge of the football program beyond these next four games.

The Tigers' final regular-season game is scheduled for November 24 against Texas A&M. December 9 will be the date that the LSU staff targets for its first round of official visitors, most of which will be used on their committed early enrollees, prior to the no-contact period.

While this strategy makes sense in a lot of ways, it is not clear if the Tigers will have their long-term head coach in place by then, making it increasingly difficult to convince prospects to enroll in a program without knowing who is going to be leading them for the next 3-5 years of their collegiate football careers.

Sources state that LSU will indeed be hosting visitors for the Alabama and Florida games, but they will all be unofficial visits, as it currently stands.
