The OP list is exactly what I would put. Reid was a great safety but it's Laron by a lot for me. I wonder the average age of the posters saying Reid over Landry?

Color me shocked that this is where the Reid hate really stems from .

Ok, here's my all-struggle DBU lineup last 15 years:

Karnell Hatcher
Danny McCray
Chris Hawkins
Jai Eugene
Mario Stevenson

HM:

Curtis Taylor
Harry Coleman (beast?)

Ok you say he is not in the top 3 convo but only name one other free safety to make your argument.

I shouldnt have said 'not in discussion'...He is. I can admit that.
1)Laron
2) Adams
3) For me - Jones, but I can see Reid or Steltz.

Reid only had 1 good year. His last year was mediocre, but lived off previous reputation.

Steltz is a good comparison to Reid. Reid got better in the pros.

If Chad Jones hadnt gotten injured and fallen off the map, I imagine he'd be mentioned alot more.

Reid suffered when he had to play with Loston (who wasn't good despite his billing) and the Jalens as freshmen. There is no getting around that. Your point is well-taken.

I just like Reid's game in today's college football more than LaRon's. He's more versatile. He can cover one on one. LaRon's more of a big hitter tackling maching. He was outstanding at LSU, too. If I was building a defense, though, I think I'd prefer what Reid brings to the table. The NCAA (and NFL for that matter) have basically done everything they can to erase LaRon's strengths from the game. It is sad.

Laron would be ejected for targeting before he even walked on the field nowadays.
One thing about Laron is he intimidated.... QBs were scared, WRs didnt run across the middle....he changed games just by being there at LSU

Agree with all of this. That's why I pick Reid. If we were playing with 2016's rules, LaRon would miss a lot of ball for targeting. I'd imagine both of his nasty sacks against Bama would have resulted in ejections.

I'd put Mathieu at SS over any of them to keep him on the field more than just the nickel package. You gotta have the most impactful DB of our generation on the field every play. Mathieu can move to nickel on passing downs and rotate in with Adams or Reid.

Well, Im not playing by todays flag-football rules. Overall performance at LSU is my criteria, and Laron wins by a WIDE margin for me.
But Reid was a great player, Ill say again.

With Laron and Adams filling lanes in run support, Peterson and Claiborne locking down the receivers, and Matheiu doing what Matheiu does that secondary would be shut down

Reid is more like a glorified conerback to me. He can come up and lay the wood but not as good as Laron

Better Question would be who's on your Non-DBU team? Hookfin is tops on the list

Even if you take Cassanova, Williams, and Mark Roman out of the list, still pretty strong list of recent names that went on to the pros. Left out several too. Hell, Rashard Robinson could technically be added to Honorable Mention if he didn't have the Dishonorable discharge

Debatable I am picking Reid on this one though. Reid was a punisher.

stats wise yes Jones and Steltz seem to be an obivous choice but Reid play with some absolute playmakers while at LSU and still managed to shine.
