I like your take on this. Despite all the big plays, last night was the first time this staff had faced any real adversity against a legit opponent on offense. They will have things to look over on this game film that should help them tighten up and get the players coached up heading into the Bama game. With two weeks to improve and plan, the mistakes from last night could end up a blessing in disguise going forward.

Was at the game and they never showed a replay. Looked high to me. No targeting?
It wasn't. They showed it several times on TV. It was a very hard hit, but it was a form tackle. Looked off and lead with the shoulder. Hit him in the chest. Just a good solid hit.

Majority of coaches would just run the clock out in that situation
some of these complaints are hilarious. A few weeks ago we hated Miles because he played so conservative, would've taken that halftime lead instead of trying to extend it. We hated miles because he ran too much, and there was crying last night that we weren't running it.
We're seeing what we've been asking for and its been an awesome offense to watch. But you hindsight coaches are the worst. *throws INT* "We should've just been running the ball". *Two runs for nothing and a third and long pass incompletion* "we need to be passing earlier, too predictable". *Playaction pass results in a sack and fumble* "We should've ran the clock out"
The Miles criticisms were legitimate but this offense is balanced. Hindsight is 20/20. Don't knock play calls just because the result was bad- it's flawed logic and you're being miserable

Do you think Coach O will look back at that decision and have any regret?
Not regret it, but learn from it.
Looks like he's letting his coaches do their job.
It may have been a mistake but at least he isn't meddling.
2 cents...glass half full.

Coach O does not call the plays

I also wish we had run it on 3rd down after Etling channeled his inner JJ and almost threw an interception. I had just told my buddy, I don't trust him to make a throw here on third down after that, let's run it, kick a field goal and go up by 2 Tds... And boom, he throws a pick next play.
And for those who think I'm being a negatiger, I'm obviously thrilled with the win and the turnaround we've shown. I'm simply making an observation on one play. Which is what a football forum is for, no?

Should have ran the ball, and if you get one first down or break a long run then go aggressive
100%
Up 8, run game is working, run it to either get in better field position for a shot or take a lead into half.
That was a terrible decision.

Uh sure all coaches have regret on bad plays

run game is working because of the aggressive play calling. If we start playing it safe then teams are going to go right back to loading up the box and shutting down the run.

It was close, but the guy went more for his shoulder area. But if called, I don't think OMiss would have complained too much.
I'm old school and think it was a good old fashioned snot loosening hit

Totally agree. In hindsight, I really don't fault the play call there. Danny just got a little greedy.
However, the positives FAR outweighed the negatives with him last night. We can win down the stretch with that kind of performance. He really just had those 2 bad throws back to back, and he showed a lot of metal bouncing back and making two throws to extend the last TD drive.

It was a mistake, but an aggressive mistake. I like the play to win attitude on offense so far, but you run the clock out there.

I think most of us are just taking about one or two plays here. I love that we are more aggressive and balanced. I just didn't love this particular call, especially against this D that gave up an all time record to LF.
If anything, we will have to be a lot more balanced to beat Bama and A&M, so I have no issues there.

This is on the money. It was a stupid and unnecessary call, and it cost us. LF was totally unstoppable at this point, and he had just sat out the previous drive. In this case, it doesn't matter what the clock says. He's that big of a weapon. If he gets stopped, we run the clock and go in ahead. If he breaks off another big one, which was pretty likely at that point, then we are out of the shadow of our own end zone and have more flexibility. Worst call of the night, and Ensminger had a few stinkers.
Yep, what are the odds that play is called against Bama in that exact situation? I would hope not.

Didn't like the call but other than that and a few busyed coverages we dominated the entire game. If not for those few mistakes it's a complete blowout.
