to me I have never paid more than $50 for a mixer and I have three we use and dozens I've sold. Not really getting into the money side. Just the artisans use brushed motors (that's what is behind the black screws on the sides) the others use brushless motors. The artisans use a mechanical governor that can get wonky if it gets flour and dust on it, the others use electronic sensors.

Now the commercial models with their all in one motors and transmissions, those are the bomb. More a Hobart than a Kitchenaid.

(My bad it's my favorite appliance, no matter what field you are in there is a subset of that field that you are really into. Mine is mixers. )
