not sure. interesting truck nuts story

In one corner stood David Ham, the fiery owner of YourNutz.com. In the other, John D. Saller, the intense founder of BullsBalls.com. There's also a third player in the truck nuts game, Wilson Kemp, an 81-year-old retired high school administrator. By all accounts he's a nice man who keeps to himself. In the great Truck Nuts War, he was Switzerland. Sure, the concept is perhaps a little rough around the edges—some might even say immature—but to the two men in question, those swaying plastic nutsacks were their livelihood.

It is funny that this subject comes up. I worked on the Deepwater Horizon and knew most of the guys/people out there at the time. There is definitely a lot of LSU fans and Alabama fans (along with Ole Miss, Arkansas and Miss St) that work on drilling rigs. Our safety topic this week has been crew morale, and we have made several references to SEC football around this subject. I personally used the Bey-Bey story with the rope in his first player meeting as an example of everyone pulling in the same direction. I also did a little bantering with the crew and let them know that I will be at the LSU/Alabama game this year and that Coach O will lead the Tigers to their first win over the Gumps in the last 6 tries and that my daughter will be leading the FU Saban chant. The next day, one of my friends broke out a quote from Nick Saban to counter everything I said about the LSU Tigers. He even pointed out the Alabama National Tiltes. On drilling rigs, even though we root for different schools, we are generally like a family. It's all good fun. As for the movie, I will take it at face value. All I know is that 11 of my friends died on the rig that horrible day, and several more have experienced life altering changes. God Bless them! When I get in from offshore, I will go watch the movie (only because I personally know all of the real guys that these actors are portraying). I'm sure I will cry like a baby. Last thought, if they are making references to LSU football or Alabama football in the movie, then at tleast that part of the story is true.

haven't seen it and don't plan to. have read it is far from actual and feel it is just pushing the narative that BP is all to blame and making the characters (who also made many mistakes) out to be victims.

not trying to side with BP but i dislike it when hollywood spins shite to fit their narrative

exactly. I was grouped with 3 coworkers for about a year and half we liked working together and the company man asked to keep us together

2 DDs (LSU/Miss St)
2 MWDs (Miss St/UT)

forever bond with my 3 brothers from other mothers. would go help them at the drop of a dime anytime anywhere

BP is or was totally to blame. They displaced heavy drilling fluid with water after cutting corners when setting casing. They knew the BOPS were not working correctly. They may as well shot those people down with a 9mm.

Mr. Newman said that while his company was responsible for a “narrow slice” of the drilling operations, including providing pressure tests that produced faulty readings shortly before the explosion, it was the oil company BP that “has everything under its umbrella.”

as the head of the operation yes BP is to blame.

quote:

The Justice Department is arguing that BP was grossly negligent and ultimately responsible for a series of mistakes because it designed the well, selected the contractors and managed the drilling operation. While BP has acknowledged mistakes, it says its contractors also made serious errors that caused the well blowout, and over the last two weeks, several trial witnesses appear to have helped make its case. Geoffrey Webster, an expert witness in marine engineering for the plaintiffs, testified earlier that Transocean had neglected to properly maintain and operate the rig and its critical blowout preventer, and did not adequately train its crew.

lots of mistakes. maybe you missed where I said I wasn't trying to side with BP and just upset that hollywood changes narratives.

Fair enough. The movie board is the board I most frequently read, but my intention here was to mention the LSU references I thought were pretty cool.

But on a side note, I also worked on this movie for ten months and the families of the victims and the survivors worked with the director on honoring their sacrifice and heroism. The movie focuses heavily on the lives of the crew as opposed to making some political statement.

it is a comical farce of how the characters are portrayed

I've read reviews about it and that was exactly mentioned. They also say the movie is more like a blockbuster than a factual rendition of what happened. Doesn't really dig into the lives of the people affected either.

Ive got a little insight to the movie and sorry for bumping this thread but it hit home. The character Mark Walhberg is portraying is the main character in the movie and he plays a guy that basically couldn't find his way around a rig. He was green as green can be an only moved into an electricians position by "staying up under a desk". He was one of the first ones to take off running crying like a baby yet he sold his soul to Hollywood to make a dollar. He was no hero at all. The real heroes lost their lives and the others who attempted to save them.

I know tl;dr but context basically is main character is a coward and should never show his face again around real oil field hands
