My guide fees aren't set up for the average fisherman. I usually charge $500-$750 up front + 25%-35% of tourney winnings.
New troll?

Damn, the top stringer was under 12#? That's a rough day for a tourney in LA.

The river is currently at its lowest point (as far as fishing is concerned)
I had my worst event ever.
Several elite guys caught one or none
I think the fish are still around but the loss of habitat makes them very difficult to catch

So... someone would pay a guide to put them on fish to win a tournament.
Wow.... just wow.....
A lot of the pro fishermen use guides. I have been guiding on Lake Lanier since 1997 full time. I guide about 200-230 days per year. I have also fished some major tournaments on the lake as well as other lakes. I have been around
I have guided tons of pro fishermen on Lake Lanier and Lake Hartwell for tournaments. its something that has always been done and will always be done. its somewhat of a "unspoken" deal but it happens. Believe me.
But , the idea that a tournament trail would not want a guide to fish in a event when there is no rule against it is absurd. Trust me on this. Its either allowed or it isn't. And in the BASS Open format, it is allowed and happens in almost every single event fished.
For pro fishermen, guides can shorten the learning curve on a difficult lake. think of it like a pro golfer using a coach. For the most part, guides are not better fishermen than the Pros, they just tend to know more about the lakes they guide on which shortens the learning curve and helps make the practice period more efficient.

Lanier Spots is dead on.
However most guides have sponsors and usually line up with a guy (pro) affiliated with the same companies. I'm with Missile so I usually get with another Bomb Squad guy in the area. Guide or not we don't exchange any money.
That same guide or person may need me for Venice, or the Basin in the near future. Kinda like pay it forward.

So are you the one that told KVD about the tank pond?

No, Bayou Black.
Rockweiler hooked up KVD for the Tank Pond, ironically I was his camera boat for all 3 days.

I own my own tackle company and have been associated with big companies in the past. It does happened at times where sponsors "Ask" for help but for the most part, I am contacted directly from anglers and have been for a long time.
Writing trips are more commonly set up by sponsor companies but I have heard of a few asking for fishing help.
It is a touchy subject but it is done every day
