If it is determined his forward progress was stopped in bounds the player is awarded that spot in bounds despite going out of bounds after that. Clock will not stop unless it is a first down at which point the clock restarts at referee's signal.

Yes lack of situational awareness. Dupre committed a critical error in that situation.
