Etling against SEC competition

New here, but I've long enjoyed LSU football. I have a serious question in regards to the Harris-Etling situation: If Etling couldn't get it done in the Big Ten, what makes some think he'll magically catch on in the SEC?
Sure, the SEC isn't as strong as it's been in the past, but the level of competition across the board is undeniable. I think Etling will be serviceable, but it's as if some think he's going to lead the team to the promised land. Let's not forget Les is ultimately at the controls, which will, to some extent, hamstring Etling.
I'd like to see Etling succeed, but expectations seem quite high for a kid who posted underwhelming numbers in a lesser conference.

Wash. Dry. Repeat.
Let's let the games play out and then evaluate his abilities as an SEC QB.

Because having hope is a better option than sulking.

He didn't have anywhere near the talent at Purdue as he has here.

supporting cast helps

I agree that he didn't have anywhere near the talent he has at LSU, but the same can be said for the level of talent, defensively, he faced at Purdue. Guess we'll see starting Saturday.

Damn people just give the guy a chance , look what we've had for last few years

When was the last time a QB 'got it done' at Purdue or at LSU other than 13 for that matter. We will find out soon enough

Some of his throws should have been caught.

I want to say that Etling was 33 of 49 for 485 yards, 4 td's and 0 int's against Indiana as a freshman. Yes Indiana won the game but could you ever see ANY scenario where Brandon Harris has those kinds of numbers against ANY school much less a big ten school?

Etling certainly doesn't walk on water but his leadership and passing accuracy was so much better than Harris last week it as amazing.
and you say he COULDN'T get it done in the big 10. that's hogwash and misleading as hell. here's the Fact:
he DIDN'T get it done at PURDUE as a true freshman and sophomore. you can't deny he has a better cast of player here at LSU (again, than Purdue).

you don't know LSU fans very well.
expectations are always high. I really don't get your conference comparisons. qb ing for the worst team in your conference as a true frosh is not the place to post overwhelming numbers.

If Etling gets hot, and he can, he can light up any defense in the nation.

Every game there are WRs wide open that BH would miss. If DE can simply find those and from what we've seen so far he can, then LSU will have viable passing offense.

Compare RELATIVE talents:
LSU Talent vs SEC talent
Purdue Talent vs Big 10 Talent
Also, I don't understand why we seem to think the player that IS as a freshman remains the player to will be as a junior.
LSU has its struggles developing QBs. I certainly understand the skepticism. But, he seems to have poise, touch on short to mid passes, etc. When LSU was being touted as a NC Playoff team...it was with the idea that Harris would be a little better than he was before. Etling seems to be a little better than Harris was before. That MIGHT be enough.

Because he's surrounded by elite talent at LSU, arguably the best in college football. At Purdue he was surrounded by players nowhere near this level. Get it? That's why all he has to do is be a smart QB and let the horses run, just don't get in the way.

Yes DE appears to be more advanced mentally than Harris so far. We'll have to see how he does against a SEC D-line pass rush.
