Man, y'all sure are fired up about the racism thing.
I don't think the story itself is about "southern backward folks are terrorizing the uppity interracial couple who bought the old farmhouse". The "real" Matt character said that at first he thought it was about race. But I think that was to show he was looking for the "easy" explanation as to what was happening.
As we go on I think it will be that the story is about the locals are the "keepers" of that house/land/lost colony and will do anything to drive them away regardless of what race they are. And the cops being disinterested seem to be more of a "that fricking place is haunted and we don't want any part of it" than "screw you black guy, you're on your own".
I will say the gang initiation bit with it being a bunch of white kids knocking out a black guy was eyerolling.
Did it look like the auctioneer was some kind of pastor or priest to y'all? Maybe he was hoping that if the house was kept away from the locals that it might stop whatever evil has been happening there?
And we got brief glimpses of Dennis O'Hare (bearded guy in the video running from the pigman), Kathy Bates (colonial woman with the cleaver that Shelby hit with her car), and Wes Bentley (one of the colonials with a torch in the woods).
Also, after watching "American Crime Story" it was a bit jarring to see Marcia Clark married to OJ Simpson.
Overall, I enjoyed it. I liked the show within a show format and I'm glad it seems to be more straight horror and less over the top grossness (no demon rape will a drill!) like "Hotel" was.

I don't think this season has a racism focus.
Seems like he said he thought it was a motivation
