Etling couldn't win the job at Purdue

Jesus, this is the most overstated piece of bullshite that people spout off. This isnt Purdue and I assure you Etling has matured since then. We do not have to have a dynamic qb. Just someone that can connect with the recievers and tight ends. Our playmakers will handle the rest.

Looked like he had more o-line trouble at Purdue than we have here. Look at the sacks he took those years. All year long everybody said we only needed a game manager and "adequate" qb player. I saw that from Etling. I only saw a bunch of 3 and outs before. Maybe he ends up still not being what we need or hope for but right now it's better than it's been.

Well said RxHunter! I completely agree. Just got sick of everyone judging him before he had even taken an official snap for us.

So we all saw Jarrett Lee bring the tigers to the 2011 national championship game to be replaced by Jordan Jefferson

This is not what happened.

Big Ten=SEC he was at a mid tier big ten school and couldn't outright win the job and he was given plenty of chances. Don't tell me something is overstated when it's true arse. The coaches at Purdue/LSU are way better talent evaluators than u and I as well....id take their opinion

Well looks like he is winning it at LSU. What does that say about Harris? You seem butthurt. Maybe the guy improved from his freshman year.

Oh I see. You are one of those people who think that because he wasnt at a powerhouse SEC school he is automatically a shitty qb. No nevermind that Purdue had an atrocious O-Line his freshman year, he still managed to beat out 2 other qbs for the job. He has put in alot of hard work, obviously learned the playbook and has executed said playbook better than our returning starter! As for being a judge of talent, I agree. The coaches do know more than you or I. I guess that is why Cam recruited him.

Personally, I don't expect DE to be a high % completion QB...more of a manager, good scrambler, improviser when protection breaks down( which I do expect to happen often) lol...and make some clutch throws when the game is on the line...

Everyone complaining about etling's numbers saying it was a sub par performance needs to watch the game again.

He was light years ahead of Harris in every trait the qb needs. This was his first time playing too

6 of 14 with:
2 dropped balls by dupre
1 dropped ball by Jeter (I think, the first pass)
1 dropped pass by guice (tough catch, but it was a nice throw and he should have caught it)
1 busted screen play that there wasn't much he could do with
The most refreshing play by him I saw was a completion to Jeter on 3rd down that was called back for holding. His pocket presence and movement was something we haven't seen in years at LSU

Could have easily been 10 of 15. 66% is solid

All of that is in addition to the leadership he showed that also has been missing for years

All I'm saying is there are always going to be drops so don't argue that. Harris would still be starting and we would be 2-0 if Dupree wouldn't have had those "drops" against Wisconsin. I'll say Etling performed when we needed him to and I hope he keeps on performing. I did like his composure and how his presence on the field changed the whole team's attitude.
